I'd suggest "Escape From New York" from 1981, and from 1984 both "Streets of Fire" and "Night of the Comet."
And I'll second the suggestion for "The Last Dragon," though I think maybe watch Bruce Lee's "Enter The Dragon" from 1973 first.

@awkwardashleigh, "HI!...YES!...HELLO THERE! MILLENNIAL, WHEW! finally found you Sis, love your reaction to Lake Placid & all things Betty White. When you get the chance, I would love too see your reaction to a little movie from the 80's, Berry Gordy's 'The Last Dragon/The Last Dragon'(1985). I think you will very much like it, TAKE CARE!!!"๐๐ฟโโ๏ธ๐๐ฟโโ๏ธ๐๐ฟโโ๏ธ๐๐ฟโโ๏ธ๐๐ฟโโ๏ธ

I would have guessed this movie was about the 1980 Winter Olympics. I would have been very, very wrong.

I saw this in the theater and was giddy seeing Betty White! It launched her late life renaissance and introduced her to a new generation.
I also love Meredith Salenger (now Patton Oswaldโs wife). She was in another great movie โthe Journey of Natty Gannโ with John Cusack. So good .

SO glad that you enjoyed this film, Ashleigh! One of my favorites, and I completely agree that it is one of the most under-rated movies out there. Basically a spoof OF the creature feature and it works both on the suspense side AND the humor side.

You should check out a few episodes of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show'. Betty White's Sue Ann Nivens was the "type" she played against when being Rose Nylund.
In fact, Betty was initially cast as Blanche, due to the similarity of the two characters.
Fortunately for us, the chemistry was wrong, and Betty swapped role with Rue and the rest is history.
