Was about to start the movie, then got asked to play pool. Will be watching later.
Just reminding you that "Ernest Scared Stupid" is better though. :-P

Honestly, the only Steve Martin movies I can watch more than once are "The Three Amigos" and "Sgt. Bilko."

I've done many a Polar Bear plunge. Our local volunteer fire dept has one as a fundraiser the first Saturday every January. We may not be Wabasha cold but Nebraska knows a thing or two about how to have a winter. We have some charred meat on a bun, maybe one more beer than might strictly required and engage in some competitive hypothermia. Dirty secret no one wants to admit - NOBODY wants to be the first one out of the water. EVERYBODY wants to be the second one out of the water - and we're good with that.

If you want to really an experience T.J. you should come to Wabasha for The Grumpy Old Men Festival in February. You can jump in the cold Mississippi when the temp is just above 0 degrees!

I wonder if you caught that the cat juggler was Steve Martin, as well.

I'm almost of the opinion that GRUMPY OLD MEN should be a December (Jingle Beans) choice. It's as much a Christmas movie as DIE HARD.

These movies would be great. I live in Wabasha where these movies take place. The movies were not filmed here though. Wabash is 80 miles south of the Twin Cites. The makers of the film wanted to be nearer a major airport so the picked a Twin Cites suburb that they thought had a small town feel.

A fitting tribute to Carl Reiner who we sadly lost last year. His son's films are much better well known, but he was an old hollywood legend and he is missed...

I really enjoy the part where he beats up the racist business associates. What's to be "mortified" by in that scene? Is it not good that the racists got what they deserved? Was it just the use of THAT word? Because that's a word that racists use. And, in my world, it should get you beaten up and thrown into the pool.

I'm pretty sure the pool was the same from the Godfather. The lead gangster that Navin beats up (and, oof, I forgot about the language in that scene ... things were different in the '70s) was Luca Brasi in The Godfather.

For a couple of Steve Martin movies I think you'd probably enjoy more, I'd say "Roxanne" (a romantic comedy based on a much older story), and "The Three Amigos" (which I won't even explain the premise, but it's got Martin, plus Chevy Chase and Martin Short).

I agree with you completely about this movie Steve Martin's much better in other movies. This is probably one of my least favorite Steve Martin movies. Another good movie that he's in his Father of the Bride as far as DC and MCU movies actually I enjoyed the Hellboy movie which I highly recommend if you enjoy the MCU movies.

The "weightlessness" line was because he thought she meant Cosmonaut, not cosmetologist. hehe

Do you have a 4K player? Asking so I don’t accidentally send you an 8 track in the form of a movie later (Devon’s hubbens).

Regarding the DC movies, don't expect the consistent level of quality or continuity that you get with the MCU movies. There are a few DC movies that that are good by themselves, but DC has been unable to create the same kind of movie experience that the MCU has over 20+ movies.

This movie is one of those rare occasions where the final result is less than the sum of its parts. A lot of great scenes and jokes, but as a whole doesn't seem to hold up as well for those that weren't around when it came out.
