EARLY ACCESS: MoonStruck

Hi Yes HELLOOOOO

With Olympia Dukakis passing away last week, I noticed that all her obituary headlines mentioned Moonstruck...  My only film with Dukakis, so far, has been Steel Magnolias.

Decided to move some of the movies coming up in order to fit this one in as a tribute to such a wonderful actress - not to mention - I also just freaking LOVE Cher.

IMPORTANT TIME STAMPS:
Preview Review: 00:49
Watch With Me: 2:30
Review: 21:06

ALSO: A video just went live on my second channel - Me trying Australian snacks.... including VEGEMITE! https://youtu.be/K8LzomMCaHY

EARLY ACCESS: MoonStruck

I only became a patron recently, so I'm watching everything out of order, but I do recall you mentioning you like Cher, so I was wondering if anyone had suggested "Mask", from 1985, starring Cher, Eric Stoltz, Sam Elliott, Laura Dern, and Estelle Getty, among others? (not "The Mask" from 1994)

I was just an extra and there was A LOT of waiting around between scenes… I got bored and asked the closest person to me a question and almost peed myself when it turned out to be Olympia!! We had a great conversation about her work and the assistant director’s underwear 😜

A New York titbit: When Perry (John Mahoney) walks Rose home after dinner the the magic of the movies makes it seem that the restaurant is in the neighborhood. But the Castorinis live in Brooklyn Heights and Grand Ticino was in Greenwich Village, across the river. (It closed some years ago when the owner lost his lease.)

"What is it with these NY Italians, it's just like the Godfather!" This is movie is the perfect anti-Godfather. :)

Eric Janssen

Ohhh thank you for doing this one! I am so excited to see the reaction video, I have been wanting Moonstruck and Tootsie for a few months, because I know that Ash would love them! 👍😘🐈

And great that you’re doing Predator next week. You could literally do an entire Arnold month with that and Terminator, Kindergarten Cop, Twins, True Lies, Commando

AmyGENX

So happy you liked it!

AmyGENX

this was back when Nic was Nicolas Coppola

WHAT tell me more about talking to Olympia!

Ashleigh Burton

You're so right.. I don't know what I was thinking. And even now she goings for straight hair often.

Ashleigh Burton

HAHAHAAH

Ashleigh Burton

I wa also pleasantly surprised.

Ashleigh Burton

I LOVE THIS.

Ashleigh Burton

Yes! That movie is so good!!

Melissa

i recommend watching Mr. Holland's Opus staring Richard Dreyfuss and has Olympia Dukakis as the principle

Ricky P Kraus

I love the first Batman and I’m not a superhero person. I am, however, a Tim Burton person.

Kate Cassidy

I said un-CAGEd (haha)

My favorite moment is the bakery scene where the woman “Chrissy” says she’s in love with Nick Cage (the most tormented man she’s ever known). Said he couldn’t love her back because he doesn’t love himself or anything... she couldn’t be more wrong, tho. He loved more passionately than any usual man. He’s like a wild uncaged animal! Cher says he’s like a wolf with a missing foot. Later after the opera- he offers her that hurt paw! 🥲

Fatty Boombatty

Yeeeessss!!!

Kate Cassidy

Now you NEED to see Mr Holland’s Opus!! I got to talk to Olympia while filming it and it also has Richard Dreyfus!!

Ha. Look at Cher’s hair in the 1970s. Very straight.

Thomas Monk

Two Italian movies back to back? HAAY! Don’t wooorry about it! Next week, THE “Jerk” and THE “Predator” (get it???) 😄

Fatty Boombatty

This is not supposed to be- “I told ya so.” You were gonna watch anyway.

Fatty Boombatty

Memorial? Not! Ever since I saw you open this for your birthday, I’ve been saying HEY! Ya need to watch that one... it’s totally your typah thing. 😊

Fatty Boombatty

I saw this movie on an airplane when I was traveling from the west coast to the east coast. Probably would never have taken the time to watch it if I hadn't been a captive audience. Enjoyed it more than I thought.

Bill Bevins

Great reaction....haven't seen this movie in a while but I always thought it was funny and Olympia Dukakis was great (as was Cher loved her since iI was a kid in the 70s)...also shout out to Vincent Gardenia who played Pop...he played Archie Bunker's neighbor Frank Lorenzo on "All in the Family" and also appeared in the original "Death Wish" with Charles Bronson...looking forward to the upcoming reactions! :)

Paul Johnson

Olympia was a long time resident of my hometown, Montclair-NJ. She was very active in the local theatrical community.

Richard Meyer

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ashleigh Burton

I'm Soooooooooooooooooo Excited to see this when I get home from work! YES! :)

Rebecca Monk

Batman is a good movie, and I hope you enjoy it, but even if you have mixed feelings, I hope you make sure to get to its sequel Batman Returns, which is not just the best Batman movie IMO, but one of the best comic book movies of all time -- Michelle Pfeiffer is the GOAT.

Tyler Foster

CHER... AS A MERMIAD???

Ashleigh Burton

Also, the studio did not want Nicolas Cage to be cast, but Cher knew he was the right guy for the role. She fought for him and obviously won.

Tyler Foster

Not only did Olympia Dukakis win, but Cher also did, and the screenwriter John Patrick Shanley. SO glad you loved this movie, I felt confident that you would. We're not here to make things perfect, but Moonstruck is pretty close.

Tyler Foster

Yooooo. Good question, because at this point I feel like everyone has seen or know of it’s existence by now. 😂🤷🏽‍♂️

Gio Vidrio

Quick question does anyone know if Ashleigh has seen wizard of oz?

Elisa H.

Well, you loved Cher in Moonstruck. Then you’re definitely gonna love her in Mermaids. 🧜‍♀️

Gio Vidrio

I think so too! :D

Ashleigh Burton

Great choice to honor Olympia Dukakis. I'm looking forward to your upcoming reviews! This will be a fun month!
