OKAY FIRST OF ALL.
200+ PATRONS??
HOLY SHIT!!
You guys are AMAZING! Thank you all SO MUCH for the immense level of support, I can't believe it! It truly means the world to me.
I appreciate you signing up for my Patreon, and I hope you guys enjoy your stay!
✨
Now onto the post!
I was fortunate enough to design the front+back covers for the first ever Harringrove Zine, Summer of 85! We're currently running a Kickstarter campaign to get the book created, so
check it out if you'd like to get your hands on one!
Here's a little info about each of the photos:
Pic 0: The back cover of the Zine! I don't have step-by-step process saved for this one, bUT I haven't posted the full res image publicly yet, so you guys are the first ones to see it! <3
Now onto the front cover process:
Pic 1: I started off with a thumbnail! I had about 10 thumbnails initially, and the team voted on their favorites. We wound up with this one: Steve & Billy chilling on the Camaro in the Quarry!
Pic 2: Made sure the composition worked with rule of thirds and adjusted it accordingly. I also blocked in the car in this stage. I like to make sure all of my solid objects are set in stone before I start tackling more organic forms like the characters!
Pic 3: I used a 3D program called DesignDoll to pose out my characters. This allows me to experiment with what poses I want without wasting too much time drawing it all out! Then once I finalize the shapes / poses that I like, I'll begin the drawing process.
Pic 4: Using my 3D models as reference, I begin blocking in + lining Steve & Billy.
Pic 5: Final grayscale check to make sure everything's working before I begin putting the colors on.
Pic 6: COLORSSS + a placeholder title. I was messing around with a lot of blues and reds. Wasn't really feeling it.
Pic 7: I liked this scheme better than the previous palette, but it still wasn't doing it for me. It felt too much like Autumn, and not enough like Summer!
Pic 8: With the image already finalized, I took it into Photoshop and began tweaking the colors. I really wanted the final palette to have lots of warm pink/orange hues, so I kept adjusting until I was satisfied!
✨
AND THERE IT IS!
I hope you guys enjoyed!
And seriously, thank you so much again for 200+ Patrons!
That's a massive milestone for me, and I'm insanely grateful for your love <3
Take care!
