Episode #790: A Low Down Dirty Shame

“Well, the action isn’t bad!” - Steve

On this week’s episode, Listener Request Month continues as the guys chat about the Keenen Ivory Wayans action comedy, A Low Down Dirty Shame! Should someone else have starred as Shame if we were going to have this much dramatic acting asked of whoever got to play Shame? Couldn’t we have had a little more Sven-Ole Thorsen in this movie? Why does Shame only get the cool-guy makeover with like 20 minutes left of the movie? And how fantastic is Jada in everything, including this? PLUS: Clint Eastwood, unlikely ally for Wayman and Bernard?! Find out this summer when he stars in Supportive Grandpa!

A Low Down Dirty Shame stars Keenen Ivory Wayans, Jada Pinkett Smith, Charles S. Dutton, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Corwin Hawkins, Gary Carlos Cervantes, Gregory Sierra, Kim Wayans, Andrew Schaefer, and the great Andrew Divoff as Mendoza; directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans.

Episode #790: A Low Down Dirty Shame

Comments

Finally back from vacation, halfway thru and...I keep waiting to hear you guys compare this to a Ford Fairlane movie. Except Dice Clay is a more believable action hero. Oofah.

MarkNM

The reflexive sigh I released when Eric mentioned “The Beer Summit”

HockeenightsCT

If the Nielsen box had been given to young Steve, it low key would have marked him as a black household. Watching the Wayans Bros TV show? I wish there was a TV equivalent to Animation Damnation bc I would def recommend a ep from that show.

Shariq

I'm so curious what your 800 is going be

Dalton Barrett

I very briefly met Dylan Baker once. He & his wife Becky Ann Baker attended the premiere of the Downton Abbey premiere, and I was loitering outside with the autograph creeps (I wanted a pic with Penelope Wilton for my mom!), and when they walked past I said "hi, you're both so great!" or something dorky like that. They were both quite gracious. I witnessed zero cum.

Rose Esposito

The listeners have really done a great job at picking truly shitty movies this month, and it has led to some pretty damn funny eps. Well played, listeners. Esp Corey. I may never recover from that fucking duffel bag flick.

Brandon

I don’t leave a lot of comments, but damn I want that Clint Eastwood movie. This needs to be animated or something. It just needs to happen. That is the best idea for a Clint Eastwood movie ever it would be such a hard fictional movie because of who he is but damn I want that movie.

Holt Rowley

Now we need Grandpa Eastwood gay ally and Christopher Lambert raiden together….eh he he

Scott

If I get sentenced to death, I want to reenact the ending of the wild bunch. Give me a cool cowboy outfit and two paintball guns and let me go down in a blaze of glory.

Jamie

Clint Eastwood aa straight male ally had me crying I laughed so hard

Jason Banks

Seeing as you mentioned Commando, I did recognise Luis as the guy from the "Right?" "Wrong!" scene in that.

profondo robbo

Two thoughts on the Dylan Baker discussion: 1) To his credit, he's pretty amusing in Trick'R Treat as, effectively, a murderous Ned Flanders 2) the whole discussion of people associating an actor with one role gave me flashbacks to listening to the commentary tracks on the early seasons of Game of Thrones. Where one of the most consistent recurring refrain was actors talking about how Jack Gleason (Joffrey) is actually a very nice guy in real life. To the point was waiting for someone to just flat out say "Please stop yelling at him in public"

Todd B

"I'll run point with the bear so you can go talk to the otter" 😆

JK

Clint Eastwood: Gay Ally might be the bit I've wheezed the hardest at in all my years of listening.

John Edwards

Yeah, my mom gave me a bit too much freedom. I recall watching this, true lies, and buying the bad boys sound track within the span of a few weeks

Dan Craftwerk

A Low Down Dirty Shame was a VHS on repeat in my house as a kid! Me and my sisters definitely shouldn't have been watching this. Lol Jada Pinkette Smith without a doubt is the best part of this movie. I haven't seen this in a while it made me think how few movies she did in the 90's that allowed her to be funny. It's like this and Woo.

Brittany Mitchell

No matter what, Keenan will always be Jack Spade, and that's more than enough.

MarkNM

"I give you...Swank. Ten times more addictive than Marijuana!"

MarkNM

Oh Jesus lol I would still watch it

David

Alfred Molina and Mark Strong also made their career out of playing so many brown characters. Molina is talented but every time I see him ,"you'll pay for your crimes white boy."

Tala Hobballah

So any truth to the rumor that Chris Cabin is in seclusion in a mountainside monestary after the experience of watching and discussing '8 heads in a duffel bag' last week?

johnny stocker

My first R-rated movie was The Matrix, but I didn't watch it until I was 11 or 12. Better movie but a longer wait to see an R-rater; a difficult trade-off for a middle school-aged boy.

Tim O'Connor

It's good to hear Jesse V making a comeback in this one, it feels like it's been a long time. Just throwin it out there for the next VHS winner, Sven Ole and Jesse are both on Cameo...

Smaug

If Tony Todd got Farina'd, you can bet your ass that Divoff will when his time comes

Dennis Stack

Rosales was in 8 Heads

Ryan Zepp

This movie is bad. But I still love it. Used to watch it all the time on channel 11 on Saturdays in NYC

El Cocodrillo

I am chuckling at the idea of Steve , in the imagined relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith, giving Jaden and Willow the "I'm not replacing your dad, but I can be the dad that steps up" speech.

Jason

Get it girl!

Tony King

Fondly remembering the Snyder Cut episodes and Andrew's dismayed "Paul Schrader's Aqua-Focus?!"

Tim O'Connor

Hey this was my request. Been stoked waiting for today

Pasquale DelRoss

And the deeply disturbing follow-up, The Cabin That Jack Built

Tim O'Connor

Growing up, I always had a soft spot for this one. At least it was better than The Glimmer Man.

CharlesGrodin'sToupee

I wouldn't sleep on Kim either. I saw her in "Pariah" and she was really exceptional at playing such a loathsome character in that movie.

Justine Prudhomme

Eric brings it up fully but I got a good laugh yesterday when I watched the movie and realized Divoff was playing Mendoza, as was Tobin Bell in this month's WLM. We were DANGEROUSLY close to a March-doza month. Oh well, we can't have 'em all.

Busiris

I am waiting for a Bungalow Jones spinoff

Dan Craftwerk

Jake Paul wasn't a cumstain in 1994 when this movie came out, but he has been a cumstain ever since he was born in 1997.

Taco6N 13

Marlon was in the film “Air” (2023). He’s a legit actor.

Paul

Is Sven on Cameo? I would love to see him congratulate the winner of the VHS Trailer Game.

Paul

I will be impatiently waiting for A Well Built Cabin

David

One of the first R Rated movies I ever saw. 9 yrs old.
