Patreon Show Drops for the Week of February 24
Added 2025-02-24 11:00:09 +0000 UTCHey gang, hope you all had a great weekend! Hard to believe that we've already reached the last week of February, but hey, time flies when you're... well, anyway. It's important to keep the laughs going, so let's see what's happenin' in the WHMu this week:
First up tomorrow, our beloved WAIT-WHUT-uary comes to a close with an episode where we discuss a film by the Mack Daddy of WAIT-WHUT endings, that's right, M. Night Shyamalan's Signs! We had a ball revisiting this one and that always makes for a fantastic episode, so make sure you check it out on here AD-FREE at the $8 level & up!
Then on Thursday, it's our final release of the month, that's right, the next entry in our Star Trek recap show, The Nexus! This month, we're talking about a fairly silly episode of TOSTAS that was written by Walter Koenig, "The Infinite Vulcan," and a wildly good ep of TNG that the entire cast and crew apparently hated (they are wrong), "Night Terrors." Be sure to catch this great convo on here at the $8 level & up!
And that'll do it for this week, gang! Be sure to catch us later today on On-Screen Live where we'll be checking out the weekend box office, checking IN on this season of The White Lotus, and more. This'll be the last show before we take a few weeks off to send a couple of us to Austin to cover SXSW, so be on the lookout for an announcement about an OSL primetime SXSW special sometime in the next few weeks!
We sincerely hope y'all have a great week and as always, send our love and thanks for continuing to be the kick-ass supporters you all are!
Take it easy,
Andrew, Chris, Eric & Steve

"swing away" was the twist

2025-02-26 00:58:54 +0000 UTCThe Happening is badass. Got Chris's back on this one. Shyamalan wrote it to be a strange, stilted B-movie that's got great kills and makes you feel like you're in a weird dream. Love it.

2025-02-25 22:36:53 +0000 UTC(Spoiler alert, I suppose) - - - The twist is that water kills the aliens - not necessarily acid rain, although that'd be a better weakness than what Night came up with. I think that "is it or is it NOT aliens" is an early- to mid-movie anti-twist: It's Night so we expect it may NOT be aliens, but then "It's Behind" pretty much confirms that, to quote the Discovery channel, it's aliens.

2025-02-25 12:52:30 +0000 UTCEven with some scripts that are spotty at best, what the fuck happened to M. Night’s cinematic eye? Either he’s not trying every movie after the Village, or he was getting a lot more help with overall look and feel of each film than is let on. There are shots/transitions/cuts where I’m genuinely viewing great visual and timing mathematics. The fuck happened?

2025-02-25 01:50:28 +0000 UTCWhat exactly is the twist though? The audience assumes it's aliens and it is. Is the twist that we're destroying our planet and acid rain is bad?

2025-02-24 14:57:45 +0000 UTCIt's definitely a dumb twist, but I greatly enjoy just about every other aspect of the movie. This was (somehow) my first Joaquin Phoenix movie, and I remember him standing out.

2025-02-24 14:48:55 +0000 UTCYup. Evidently we're no smarter than those aliens.

2025-02-24 14:32:39 +0000 UTCAs an avid traveler, I am excited that the We Hate Movies gang will be visiting Oxford this July. This is where they’ll be going: https://youtu.be/WzSoPYDiefw?si=kccjE9j-5Fs4nALC Will the WHM gang have time to tour Oxford and the surrounding areas? Please share your Oxford pics online—we’d love to see them!

2025-02-24 14:30:13 +0000 UTCLol. Ending the month with Signs is definitely a "wait what" moment. Aliens who are allergic to water invade a planet that is 75% water.
