Gleep Glossary: A Star Wars Story #74 - Lobot (w/ Skeleton Crew Thoughts)

On this edition of our Star Wars Gleep Glossary, we're learning about the best executive assistant in the galaxy, Lobot! We're also weighing in on this first season of Skeleton Crew!

It's kinda wild that Lobot's parents gave him that name before he needed all the robot parts, no? Would Lobot be given a gold watch for 25 years of service to Cloud City? And wow, what a surprise, it's Star Wars so Lobot both owned slaves and was sold into slavery. Hey, great! PLUS: Star Wars touring burlesque shows, eh?

Gleep Glossary: A Star Wars Story is a show where the guys try to honor the history and legacy of Star Wars characters, most of whom we've been told don't matter anymore!

Thank you for being so incredible by continuing to support this weird, wild adventure we're on! You make this all possible! We know you have lots of options when choosing which pods you listen to and we very much appreciate you carving out some time for us!

I love getting to 40 with you guys. I laugh at the same dad jokes you make now. Been listening since 2013.

Nathan

Just listened to this and now have started to get ads for The Empire Strips Back on TikTok. The algorithms are always listening.

Considering that there's a infinite amount of shows and movies to watch online I think it's ok to decide to not watch something based on the trailer making it look bad

The Lando comic was published in a trade collection with a Leia limited series and Chewie limited series. All 3 are absolutely fantastic and more than worth the time to read if you have any interest in any of the 3 characters.

Jake Kroker

I always thought Lobot was a nickname. Like his birth name was Lorenzo Botticelli or something.

As far as Lobot’s name goes, many of the characters were originally named by Kenner because they just got sent the character design with no names, hence “Walrus Man”, “Hammerhead” etc . I suspect Lobot was named because he was shorter than the other figures and looked like he might have been a robot.

Craig

I owned that Lobot action figure but those puffy sleeves really bothered me for some reason. I also think he was wearing flares.

Skeleton Crew suggests Palapatine stopped using Old Republic credits as Order 66 as the currency of the Empire. What type of currency did he replace it with? Did he purge the Jedi and the Republic to shill his crypto scheme?

:55-:57 seconds needs to become the people’s rallying cry, said with the same cadence

A friend of mine went to Empire Strips Back and said it was pretty fun.... Definitely wasn't me, was a real human friend...

I wrote my comment before listening all the way through, and I feel bad for my error, really LO.

It's a Lobot entry but Lobacca is in it as a fellow kid Jedi alongside Jaina and Jacen. - Eric

We Hate Movies

For a few minutes I was confusing Lobot with Lobacca (sp?). Where the getting lazy with the names?

Sarah Wolf

I was glad that I ended up really enjoying Skeleton Crew. I really like when Star Wars plays around with different genres and inspirations, and also veers away from all things Skywalker. And it helps that there's a whole heaping ton of cool practical costumed gleep glops in every episode! More werewolf guys, please.

Busiris

I came for Lobot and stayed for everyone doing Lando impersonations

“I passed on Skeleton Crew. Yeah it’s probably a decent show-but so what.” -Carson Wells

Rather than reaching popcorn when “The Movie Starts” you should be cracking open a Cerveza Cristal

Re: the Lando comic - was originally a 4 issue mini-run that I think they then reprinted into a single book collection. Alongside the Lobot scene Eric mentioned, one other standout being a scene where an Imperial officer, after failing big, rather than apologize to the Emperor personally, opts for a blaster to the temple. Not a bad little side story.

Skeleton Crew was must watch TV in my house. The whole family was happy to watch. It’s not the best thing ever but it does have a Space Pirate Wolfman and Star Wars Space Pirates actually have silly pirate stuff like eye patches and leg legs. It was fun. The first episode is a bit of a slog though

Dan sulin

Great as always! "I know you guys are thinking this is a short entry, but it is not." lmao

Zora McBride

I think Skeleton Crew was great, people mention The Goonies when talking about it, but it brought to my mind the source material that inspired the Goonies: Treasure Island. Not sure it needs another season but I'd watch it.

Felipe Sobreiro

I’m with Andrew on this show. The show not being about the greatest hits of Star Wars is what was great about it. I was nervous about it being a show for kids but it totally reminded me of the 80s kids adventure movies and that just worked for me. Plus Jude Law was amazing.

Steve Lyon

Hurray, perfect way to start the day!! Coffee, tall glass-a-water and a glossary of the gleaps! Love you guys, stay safe out there. Get set to wear the blue!

Zora McBride

I've been on the fence about watching Skeleton Crew and this convinced me to give it a chance simply so I can hear some Star Wars noises that I dearly miss
