MELR0210 #82 90210's "Back in the High Life Again" & Melrose Place's "Grand Delusions"

It's our monthly flashback trip to the more glorious and sunny times of 1990's Los Angeles on MELR0210!

First up on Beverly Hills, 90210, it's the start of the Daddy Wars on "Back in the High Life Again." Originally airing back on January 27, 1993, this episode has total class act and not-at-all scumbag, Jack McKay getting out of jail and popping the champagne, Mel Silver admitting to David that he's got a real problem with monogamy, and Jim Walsh stepping in and trying to save Dylan's fortune from his sleazy dad! PLUS: Brandon's gambling addiction grows stronger!

Then up the street on Melrose Place, it's the explosive episode, "Grand Delusions"! Premiering back on October 3, 1994, this episode has Sidney pretending to be someone named Miranda to try and scam a still amnesia-riddled Michael, Billy and Alison sniping at one another while trying to work together at D&D, Jo getting in too deep with Reed's insane parents, and Amanda dealing with Palmer who, as it turns out, wants revenge on Jake! PLUS: RIP Jake's boat!

MELR0210 is a WHM podcast where the guys blissfully stroll through the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place timelines. The TV episodes covered will run in broadcast order unless otherwise specified.

Thanks so much for continuing to support the WHM Patreon! We know you have a lot of options when it comes to podcast entertainment and we're grateful you chose to spend some time with us. You're way cooler than Dylan McKay!

Eric family lore: used satellite dish from Stay Tuned to watch movies would throw animal carcasses off the cliff behind our house

Dr. with amnesia is now a show on fox. Gobsmacked.

Begun, the Daddy Wars have. I have a few uncles and aunts I’ve never met because my granddad too had a bit of a problem with monogamy lmao. Clearly didn’t have a problem starting a family tho given he had two of them.

You need to do the Ladykillers tv movie sometime. (It's on YouTube.) A murderer is offing male strippers and so Michael Mancini has to go undercover, Keith David has to explain gender, and Marilu Henner has to cop in bike shorts.

Your Jack McKay accents never get old 😂

I gotta say, the Walsh Family sweater game was strong in this one. I don't know which was better, Jim Walsh's Cosby sweater or Brenda's Knives Out style.

It's this sideshow's fault that "bagoo" is now in my vocabulary

Welcome to the party, Johnny! It's a wild couple of shows. Thanks for checking out MELR0210! - Andrew

This is very tangential but I really really need/want Billy to throw "mingo" into his dialogue. At least once or twice a season. The one-off is beautiful but the people demand more.

You know, despite being a young Gen Xer I never watched these in the 90s, and despite being Walsh tier for awhile, never listened to one of these. Got Paramount Plus again recently and was like, 'I'm gonna watch these and listen to the ep this month to try it out.' I just finished the MP, and I'm afaid I've just blown the next 6 months, because I'm going to have to go back to the beginning on these.

New info Sopranos star Michael Imperoli was considered to play Michael Mancini

Uhhh in season 3 episode 19 Steve says he's going to the Lakers Cavs game but when Brandon is watching the game on TV the game is clearly played in Cleveland. Are we to believe Steve and Jack Nicholson traveled to Cleveland? I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder.

You guys talking about Mel Silver taking David under his wing reminded me the one time when I was 11 and my father was still married to my mom and my father took me to a bar with him and was flirting with two women the entire night. When we left he made sure to let me know if I wasn't there he would have swung a threesome, and he told me in a way like he thought I should be appreciative. He also had a problem with monogamy

"Oh, I like boats" this old guy is killing me 😂

Ray

I'm with Jim Walsh on this one. You don't know what kind of P Diddy party Jack McKay is throwing. Brenda is once again such a baby! Mel Silver having a problem with monogamy was a knee-slapper. He must be Mormon.

Eren Keskin

Unrelated, but I’m looking forward to your discussion of ‘Signs’—M. Night’s only award-worthy film after ‘The Sixth Sense’. That dinner scene alone should have earned Mel a Best Actor nomination. “No one can stop us from enjoying this meal—so ENJOY IT!” https://youtu.be/i9ATdLDRvrc?si=f94KPgoYzKjRxbUo

I almost passed out when Chris defended Jim Walsh. I thought I entered a different dimension.

Christopher Oxentine

Come on guys, Mel got like this from all of his touring with Eddie and the cruisers, women were just throwing themselves at those dudes

Steve dad lore: My dad used to skydive! Chris dad lore: My dad spent a few months in the clink and it reformed him into a mastermind VHS collector.

Hoping this gambling arc ends with Brandon's head in a vice, Casino-style. "Steve Sanders?? You make me pop your fucking eye out of your head to protect that piece of shit?!"
