Once In A Lifetime #24 "TalhotBlond"

On this edition of Once In A Lifetime, we're chatting about the outrageously entertaining movie, TalhotBlond! How great is Garret Dillahunt's mustache in this movie? Why is Courteney Cox's character trying to stir up trouble for her co-worker in every scene she's in? What year does this movie think it's set? And is this one of the best Lifetime movies ever made? PLUS: Great catfishing tip - once the total stranger you're chatting with online says they're being shipped overseas to fight a war, just know you're definitely getting catfished!

TalhotBlond stars Garrett Dillahunt, Laura San Giacomo, Brando Eaton, Molly Hagan, Taylor Geare, Jadin Gould, Ashley Hinshaw, Drew Seeley, and Nicholas Turturro as Detective Moretti; directed by Courteney Cox.

Once In A Lifetime is a bi-monthly (every-other month) WHM podcast where the gang watches some outrageous Lifetime (and Lifetime-adjacent) movies and attempts to sift through the madness within.

Ahhh you're too kind! <3333

Busiris

Busiris, you guys are an amazing exception! - Andrew

We Hate Movies

We're kinda just always thinking about Eric Roberts when we record this show, so it's only natural! - Andrew

We Hate Movies

OMG perfect director for the next STALKED entry! - Andrew

We Hate Movies

Loved this!! Kicking myself for not recommending Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? It stars Tori Spelling, it has an amazing title - my friends and I used to quote it in high school as an example of a ridiculous movie!

Jaime Lee Ezell

It will be!! I have 5 kids so it’s way too much for me to handle. You are the kind of parent we depend on, and you’ll give those kids great memories!

Jaime Lee Ezell

If only for the Michael Caine impressions.

Conrad Silas

He's the BEST. I'm a full-on fangirl. 🥰 Harry Brown episode when?!

Rose Esposito

This Jeffrey Dahmer looking motherfucker

KINIUN

I didn't know the true story behind this and was sure the young co-worker was behind the whole thing for most of the movie. It made the twist that much greater. WAIT!! WHUUTT?!? I don't think I've ever cringed harder while also laughing my ass off. What a fun one. Let Courtney Cox direct a Stalked By My Doctor movie, Lifetime!

Kemper

I like how the Garret Dillahunt impression is similar to the Eric Roberts impression. If you're leading a Lifetime movie, you are basically Eric Roberts for the movie's runtime.

Tim O'Connor

I got to work for a few days in some prison scenes on a Garret Dillahunt comedy series called Sprung, which was on FreeVee, I think, not even Amazon proper. Dude’s handsome AF when he’s not playing some sad sack hitting up fake teenage girls on the interwebs! I’ve got about 20 minutes left in this movie, and it looks like shit’s about to get wild…

Rob Brown

Pictures being sent via the internet in 2000 and 2001? None haha

Brendan 'Timbzy' Timbs

Incredibly embarrassing. Has two kids and a wife, falls in love with a meth mom from Michigan lol.

Ray

How many dick pics you get?

I.C. Weiner

This week I had to take 5 hours of online courses to qualify to coach my 5 year old son's soccer team. I certainly hope it is worth it

I.C. Weiner

Oh God, my wife's hotter!

I.C. Weiner

I have a fun image in my head of Steve cackling and grabbing all the chips in a poker game like in the intro to Roseanne.

Joe Gunch

As a 12-14 year old dude in North Queensland, Australia, whenever anyone asked ASL, it was always 15/f/Cali. Always for the early 2000s lulz.

Brendan 'Timbzy' Timbs

You should start reviewing the true crime lifetime movies i.e. Drew Peterson untouchable.

Mike Kling

That “do you want to try” sex scene is maybe the most pitiful thing I’ve ever watched. 10/10

John Zurkuhlen

I must encourage you fellas to get back into Catfish. I miss Max too, but Kamie is great! Like Max, she has no patience for assholes. (Her feud with Ashley Taylor is legendary.) And they've been putting all these compilations on YouTube ("the most gullible catfishees," "top 5 most shocking Zoom reveals") and they are dangerously addictive. 😬 Remember the 3 Cs of catfish red flags: cancer, car crash, coma! And also witness protection, yes.

Rose Esposito

The reveal of the photo in the interrogation room floored me. Like I knew it was something like that, but his reaction is amazing.

Ray

While I never got catfished, this discussion brought me back to the Age of A/S/L and how dare you sirs. How. DARE. You. If that old eMachine could talk... Although I had a trackball mouse for it that I freakin loved.

MarkNM

Regarding the conversation of folks getting into relationships via online chat rooms or instant messenger, I definitely did that around the same time this movie took place, which was around when I was in college. I DON'T recommend it for everyone, except I do consider myself the rare exception to the rule in that I ended up marrying that person and we've been together for almost 20 years. So there definitely are some positive (and not pathetically deceptive) experiences out there when it comes to mid-aughts IM and chat culture.

Busiris

I really liked Valkyrie … anyone else?

chris pike

You fellas should’ve done ‘Den of Thieves’ this month. There’s a big ‘Wait, what?’ moment in that movie. In fact, the whole movie is one big ‘Wait, bro, what?!’ 😂

Paul

I was there with Steve, inside the Poker Boom of ‘03. So much so that I’m shocked when people don’t remember it. It all started with Chris Moneymaker winning the WSOP. That being televised and for whatever reason getting media coverage plus online poker beginning then were the two main ingredients in that explosion, but it’s also when Texas Hold ‘Em became the main style of play, and it being a more streamlined version of poker brought a flood of people into Boom, especially younger people. Casino Royale had Bond playing Hold ‘Em instead of Baccarat like the original story. All the big names in the poker world became household names (well, the basement of the household name) and made up the ugliest and least charismatic group of Stars ever. Moneymaker, Fossil Man Greg Raymer, Howard Lederer and Annie Duke, the bad boy Phil Helmuth, and the sex icon of the scene, Daniel Negreanu. And then I think like 75% of them were involved in ripping people off in sleazy ways by taking advantage of the Boom and online poker The Boom was real! Also Balatro is a great poker video game to check out

RJ Cunningham

Poor guy thought he was talking to Eric Szyszka

Eren Keskin

I loved Garret Dillahunt in Fear the Walking Dead, so it was such a shock to see him play such a polar opposite character than what I had become accustomed to see him portray. Courtney Cox's character is such a shit stirrer - I loved this train wreck movie!

Dr. M

Maybe the most pathetic lead character in the history of cinema. I love it so much.

Noura Sarayel

Totally agree on sports parents. I tried, I can’t do it. Not in the market for a third job lol

Jaime Lee Ezell

Having watched this with no knowledge of it's existence, I was really hoping the coworkers were playing this tall creep

Dan Hillen

Garret Dillahunt comes across as a *slightly* less threatening Sean Harris. That bloke (Harris) scares me shitless.

Conrad Silas

LOL assigned to watch bowe bergdahl

Jackie Coleman

I've always felt a strange jealousy for people who get catfished. I'm 40 years old, have been married for 10 years and have a son and yet I still wonder if anyone could truly love me. Meanwhile these motherfuckers are out there like "Oh, Sabrina Carpenter said she wants to meet me and just needs a $5,000 loan to fly out to my house!" That's a combination of confidence and delusion I could really get behind.

Michael Daniels

I enjoyed this one a fair bit. Garret Dillahunt is always fun to watch, and this was just the right amount of silly to work.
