“Even if he’s chewing on a gob of Kryptonite, I don’t see how it’s a fair fight” - Chris on Magpie fighting Superman
On the next chapter in our journey through The Penguin on Too Old For This Shit, we’re chatting about the season-best episode, “Cent’Anni”! How magnificent is all the costuming and hair styling in this episode? How dumb was this reporter to try and flip the daughter of the city’s most dangerous crime boss? Are the showrunners rooting through DC’s trash to find characters they wouldn’t mind getting murdered immediately? As amazing an actor Mark Strong is, who else is missing Turturro? How funny are Johnny Vitti’s two bedroom guitars? And wow, what an ending, huh? PLUS: The Drew Carey Show, the perfect balm for depression?

We’re also finding out that Batman is kind of the least of their worries. Riddler is the one that really fucked things up for these mob families, and they’re wasting each other left and right, which is far worse than anything that Batman would do to them.

I love how fast this thing is moving. It did not take long for Sofia to learn that Oz was behind her brother's murder.

The last thing I saw Mark Strong in was Sunshine. I'm glad he got his blurry face fixed.

Fun fact: Not the first time Cristin Milioti played the daughter of a mob boss. Can you guess the first time she played that role? Clue: the first time is for a much nicer mob boss.

He is pre batman for this episode (I guess he would be about the same age as Sofia?) and yeah he was pretty fucked up in the movie and also nothing in the show so far has felt like something big enough to make his radar with the possible exception of murdering a hundred people at the end of this last ep

To be fair to him he would have been pretty young/pre batman when she went in but in general Bats has always been a huge fan of the carcerial state

By costuming and hairstyling I'm assuming you mean "awooga awooga"

given the timeframe of when this is happening after The Batman, he’s probably recovering from multiple broken bones + wading through floodwaters (and watching The Drew Carey Show)

I saw on Twitter earlier today that several people suggested that because Sofia brought the girl into the greenhouse, it's foreshadowing that she (the girl) will end up as Poison Ivy. In case any of you are wondering what that massive sigh that came across the Atlantic was. (Loving the Irish jokes by the way)

That Batman fella really doesn't care if people are rotting in a place like that huh

The wall peeling scene seems like a reference to The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. It's the story of a woman getting gaslit and imprisoned by men too.

Mark Strong is half-Italian, his birth name is Marco Giuseppe Salussolia!

I was READY to jump right in here to mention the actor that played The Trickster but Andrew was right on the ball with it. The utter glee from the gang on discovering that connection was delightful. I did double-check the imdb and, no, unfortunately he made no appearances on The Drew Carey Show. 💔

Mr. Wick: one of the all-time great sitcom foils. Ferguson is so funny on that show. And agreed, the first like half of that series is fantastic. - Andrew

Great work as usual…just a little sad that the discussion of fires and FireFly didn’t involve a reference to Robert and Renee.

I know it’s cool and all that Batman doesn’t have a presence on this show. However, I can’t help but ask myself periodically while watching this show, “Where tf is Batman?? Is he busy? Training? Is he hanging out with Wonder Woman? A lot of shit is going down and mofo’s MIA.”

Magpie really came across as the "We have Harley Quinn at home" of the Matt Reeves Bat-Universe.

All jokes aside, the initial seasons of The Drew Carey Show were pretty good. Craig Ferguson was brilliant as Mr. Wick.

I thought the same thing at the dinner scene, Sophia was going to pull out a machine gun and blow them all away. But that fits Home Alone VHS movies more than this show, A+ execution of using the gas. Great EP of the show and excellent convo boys 🍻

Also re: IMDB trivia this one is free if anyone wants to drop it in "THE LADY NAMED ABBY IN THE CREDITS IS CRAZY AND DISTURBED AND THE BRAIN THAT THEY GET IN YOUNG FRANKENSTIEN IS FROM A CORPSE NAMED ABBY NORMAL WHICH IS A TAKE ON ABRNORMAL WHICH MEANS THAT THE FRANKENSTIEN IS ALSO FROM A CRAZY PERSON AND THAT MEANS THAT THIS SHOW IS PROBABLY A PREQUILT TO YOUNG FRANKENSTEEN" but only if you keep the spelling errors
