Episode #763: Leprechaun 4: In Space (with James A. Janisse & Chelsea Rebecca of DEAD MEAT)

“It’s a very specific kind of dumb…” - Chris

On this week’s SPOOKTACULAR episode, we welcome back our Dead Meat buds, James A. Janisse & Chelsea Rebecca, to chat about the outrageous sci-fi FOUR-OR movie, Leprechaun 4: In Space! How cheap are these computer animated ship effects? What was with that Ray Charles joke? What’s going on with this Mittenhands character? Does having this extra bug monster crowd the field for our beloved monstrous Leprechaun? And how about those exploding genitals, huh? PLUS: Captain Picard turns down the offer to install a disco ball in 10 Forward for… reasons.

Leprechaun 4: In Space stars Warwick Davis, Brent Jasper, Jessica Collins, Gary Grossman, Rebecca Carlton, Tim Colceri, Guy Siner, Debbie Dunning, Rick Peters, Geoff Mead, Ladd York, and Miguel A. Nuñez Jr. as Sticks; directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith.

Loving this. Brief explanation of leprechauns in space: people arrived and found an Irish pub already there. Renowned explorer Livingstone discovered many African countries in the 1800s and all of them had an O’Donnells or Connelly’s with Guinness on tap when he arrived.

Tom

Fast franchise took 9 films to go to space

Steve's "forties of thousands of dollars" is a new expression that will live rent-free in my head.

Emil Svensson

Sorry you feel that way.

Samuel McGuire

Brutal. Yeah, I watched it entirely alone. - Andrew

We Hate Movies

The new Children of the Corn is one of the few movies I've started watching with my gf where she has quit halfway through and told me that I would have to finish it without her.

Jamie

Aw thanks!

Dead Meat

This is one of those movies that I feel must have been pretty depressing to actually be on set for.

The Wheel

There wasn’t Mooch left of him

Billy Jay

Love the Dead Meat episodes! The Slenderman episode on their show is how I was introduced to you guys and now you're my security blanket lol.

Tanner

Not being much of a horror fan, I don't know anything about Chelsea and James' work other than their Leprechaun portfolio here, but I love these eps with them

Smaug

Man, this is some real generic white people garage rock

Chris is right that Bug isn’t as popular as their other records, but “Freak Scene” is a great opener and still slaps.

Samuel McGuire

Stop spoiling recent movies like Cuckoo with details I had no f'ing idea about! Seriously!

Knut Farstad

Oh, we def will! They're real good buds! - Andrew

Can't wait to read this! - Andrew

When they finally do "Willow" I hope they bring DM back since it's Leprechaun-adjacent.

Mark Ibarra

I believe this and Space Mutiny share the same night club.

CharlesGrodin'sToupee

Hey, leave Space Mutiny out of this!

Hard To Gwil

This is true. I now can live my best post-big leprechaun life.

Busiris

This movie seems like it was porno script they took out all the sex scenes and threw in the leprechaun.

Brittany Mitchell

Fun fact, there is a Leprechaun themed band out of Seattle called Green Cross. They put out an album in 2013 that you can listen to on bandcamp.

TDB

Playing Nick Arcade 😂😂😂

Milan

The cups used in Love is Blind drove me insane. They bring them into restaurants and theme parks!

jribs

Steve: jsyk this was available on Hoopla, don't...don't buy this fucking movie. Support your library!

G Goldhar

I miss the vhs trailer game

Truck McGuffin

hell yeah, I hope you keep bringing on Dead Meat even after you run through all the Leprechaun movies

Alex Murica

I instantly recognised Dr Mittenhands as Lieutenant Gruber from 'Allo 'Allo, a great 80s WWII sitcom here in the UK. He clearly had a bit of a nazi niche!

Tony King

But you would have missed big leprechaun!

Ray

Books is actually from a nearby city in Oregon and still lives there. Maybe he'll be at the live show!

Ray

This was, for me, the roughest movie to watch for the podcast in a long time, lmao. Rarely do I feel the urge to quit before the movie ends but it was deeply tempting here. Turns out I was right to peace-out on this franchise after the third movie when I was a kid. And yet movies like this make for some of the best episodes of the podcast.

Busiris

My favorite yearly tradition. Period.

Kate G

So excited for this one!!

Devin Smith

Aaaaawww yeah! My two favorite podcasts together again.
