The Nexus #97 "One of Our Planets Is Missing" / "The Wounded"

On one of our longest-running shows, we're talking Trek on another wild episode of The Nexus!

First up, in the animated world of TOSTAS, it's the dull-as-dog-crap episode, "One of Our Planets Is Missing." First hitting the air on September 22, 1973, this episode has the Enterprise facing off against, you're not gonna believe this, another sentient space cloud! As the cloud heads towards a planet it's going to consume, the crew tries to save the people on the ground by flying into the cloud, shooting it a bunch, and ultimately just having Spock seduce the stupid thing, ultimately convincing it to fly away. Boring-ass episode!

Then over on TNG, it's the kick-ass episode, "The Wounded"! First airing January 26, 1991, this episode has some killer Picard diplomacy scenes, the introduction of the Cardassians as the new Big Bads in the galaxy, a rogue Starfleet captain trying to kickstart a war, and Chief O'Brien and Keiko replicating each other a bunch of gross breakfast!

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support our family of showsโ€”we couldn't do it without you! We know you have lots of options for pods and we're super-stoked you chose to spend some time with usโ€”thanks again!

Sex tape would be a stay tuned for mid as hell big box comedy theme month.

Hello, WHM: Longtime listener here. For several years & many Listener Request Month's later: "The Wounded" has finally arrived. Respectfully, this is my all-time favorite episode of TNG. Like Andrew said, TREK works best when it's in political thriller mode. I also want to point out, as a Naval reservist 3 yrs away from retirement: the service academies for years showed the final scene between Picard & Dukat to the recruits on how to deal with conflict in a collected yet firm manner. I can't wait to see you all again in Portland on Nov. 17th. I will be bearing gifts (what a shock!) as I know there are some 4Ks Andrew does not have and a certain hat Eric has been trying to get. I leave it at that... Be well, gang! โœŒ๏ธ

One of the best they ever did! - Andrew

Marc Alaimo as Gul Dukat on DS9 is easily one of the best villains in the ST cannon. He knows when to chew the scenery, knows when to twirl the mustache, and knows when to terrify the shit out you.

I think I know which one and it was!

Craig

Great TNG episode.

The Wheel

He likes your plan, Chief!

Wonder what wise words Picard would have for Major Kira about being prejudiced against Cardassians ๐Ÿค”

Can't wait for the next TOSTAS; "All Of Our Dicks Are Missing."

Mark Ibarra

I'm not as big on Shawshank, that's the Chief from Demolition Man!

If you're excited about Cardassian, just know that in the future you will see David Warner as a Cardassian and as much nude Patrick Stewart as 90s syndicated television would allow in a banger of a two-parter.

Michael Daniels

Andrew, don't you let them mock you over your chicken wings for breakfast dream. You keep living your best life, my friend.

johnny stocker

I credit you guys with exposing me to TOSTAS, I wouldn't have ever watched this show otherwise.

Smaug

TOSTAS should be the official acronym.

Bob Gunton Hive rise up

I expect one particular Spock quote will get highlighted, let's find out.
