Animation Damnation - The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror V"

On this special SPOOKTACULAR edition of Animation Damnation, the gang is in full-on WHM mode as they chat about arguably the best Halloween special The Simpsons ever produced, "Treehouse of Horror V." Originally airing October 30th, 1994, this episode features not only the finest "Treehouse" segment ever, the Stanley Kubrick parody, "The Shinning," it also contains Homer's botched time travel adventures in "Time and Punishment," and the Springfield Elementary school teachers-as-cannibals segment, "Nightmare Cafeteria." PLUS: Jack Nicholson stars in a re-boot of Fat Ghost!

This episode is available on DVD and Hulu in the U.S. Soon enough it'll be plunged into the recesses of Disney+.

Thanks so much for digging on this weird thing called We Hate Movies and be sure to spread the word! Your support is what keeps this train moving!

I took a Kubrick class in film school and we watched The Shinning the day after we watched The Shining. It was wonderful. Teacher was a jerk, though.

I would LOVE more classic simpsons talk

Lauren Paradise

So crazy idea, this should be a new segment. Talking about The Simpsons

Were there any on this one. I know the Shinning episode had a done of incest jokes but they were pretty funny

As someone who has seen the later Archer seasons, here is my advice: Don't watch them. They're not as clever as you may thinking. It's just the characters acting the same way, only in different outfits. Here's Archer in the 1940s, but he's still Archer. Here's Archer in a 1930s serial, but he's still Archer. They'll change plot and setting, but not character. Archer and the gang are still just Archer and the gang. And now, they're going back to the private spy agency angle because the creators got bored with the "doing other genres" stuff. Say what you will about The Simpsons, but they weren't pulling "changing genre" crap until at least season nine and not until season freaking five. And those episodes were just one offs. Yeah, I know this has been a long message, but I'm pissed at what the creators of Archer did to their own show in such a short amount of time. And I'm not alone, the show has been hemorrhaging since season five..

No love for the treehouse episode that had Barts evil twin and that delicious looking bucket of Fish Heads?

Mike

I was looking through the archives I couldn’t find “The Simpsons guy” :(

Tyler the Destroyer

Uhh, any chance y’all could pull back on the pedophilia jokes a bit? :(

This definitely is up there as my favorite Treehouse episode. I think my favorite all time segment is either Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace or Homer Cubed. Underrated segments include the Raven and Burns makes the robot with Homer's brain

Frank Grimes

My favorite Treehouse episode is when Lisa creates the mini-civilization, Lutherans and all.

Was hoping you'd do an AD on this year's treehouse, since it'll be episode 666 of the simpsons...and apparently a take on Stranger Things

Frank Grimes

Did you guys mention that you did the “Simpsons Guy”???

Tyler the Destroyer

Really an outstanding Simpsons episode; always worth a yearly re-watch.
