Episode 446 - The Shining

On this month's Spooktacular episode of We Love Movies, the gang is talking about one of the all-time greats: Stanley Kubrick's The Shining! Just look at how much of a jerk Jack is being during that job interview. How come Dick Hallorann can't do a better job covering up that "Doc" flub in the kitchen? And who in their right mind decided that this film deserved Razzie nominations? PLUS: Welcome to Shelley Duvall's Haunted House!

The Shining stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd, Scatman Crothers, Barry Nelson, Philip Stone, Joe Turkel, and Tony Burton; directed by Stanley Kubrick.

I think part of King's hate for this adaptation is that Jack Torrance was based on himself. So Torrance being p much completely terrible prior to failing under the hotel's influence and remaining so until the end rather than dying sabotaging the boiler to destroy the hotel feel personal to him

Billie Jackson

Redrum Mr Staaaaark!!

Brendan Flanagan

WHM Tony has the same voice as Tom Holland's Peter Parker, which makes it even more hilarious.

Darcy

And also in movie Jack did say give the bat

Melvin shermen

And also in book the bear man and tuxo man are gay lover And got name is name Roger and Horace Derwent

Melvin shermen

No is Was bear in kubrick movie But in book is Was dog

Melvin shermen

You talking about the haunted playground with living bushes?

Catboyslim

Completely agree!

Omar Adeel

Oops, i didn't mean to post that, I was writing a new paragraph. Anyway, rather than chasing Wendy with an axe Jack chases her with a croquet mallet and gets a few hits in along the way. The description of what she feels physically and emotionally is the only thing Stephen King's ever written that's genuinely haunted me.

Araña

Did any of you guys finish the book? There's one part in it that's actually more terrifying than the movie.

Araña

It's a dog suit not a bear suit 😊

Otelia Finnen

Fun fact: Philip Stone (who plays the racist Grady character) also was in two other Kubrick films, Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon!

Robert Young

I had a nightmare that I was in the Overlook hotel but it turned out it was just the simulated one from Ready Player One....it was terrifying

Dan sulin

Great episode, I had some bad dreams that night. I was trapped in the movie and it was mixed with some of my own moments of staying in this really creepy beach house one summer.

Luke Jacobs

It's also the one they use for their Ducktales episode when they do impressions of Huey, Dewey and Louie.

Matt Eldritch

"They're coming to get you Barbara...."

Nicholas Knecht

Oh man... I remember being so jealous of Danny riding that Big Wheel around the Overlook's halls. When Steve mentioned the sound of it running on the wood and carpet floors it was an instant memory echo that i can still hear.

Nicholas Knecht

Putting on my furrie costume for this one!

Michael Beatty

A RIGHT RIMMIE ❤️

Robin Fry

Can we talk about the foreshadowing of the walking jack and shelly through the overlook. Because every place they go is where the movie happens and the big parts of it all but it doesnt load them with a big old "remember this place for later"

Evelyn

This is one of my top three favorite movies of all time and my only Halloween tradition. You guys did not disappoint. This ep was amazing. My favorite thing that didn't get mentioned was the hard cut from Jack saying he would never hurt Danny to (I think) the Wednesday title card. Makes me laugh every time.

Alexander Farr

I love that their Tony impression sounds like a member of Strong Bad's Teen Girl Squad

Christopher French

All year I look forward to the WHM Spooktacular intro remix

Bob Guy

I love it! Please do Jurassic Park to complete the Jurassic Saga!!!

Nicole Neville

"I gotta chick up there, ass cheeks are falling off her body" had me ugly cackling. Great episode boys.

Nathan Stables
