Episode 441 - GoldenEye
Added 2019-09-06 23:25:27 +0000 UTC
On this month's patrons-only, full-length bonus episode, the gang officially launches the We Love Movies initiative with an enthusiastic conversation about GoldenEye! How great is the bungee jump at the beginning? Could Pierce get any more handsome in his first Bond outing? And who out there re-watches this film and plays the N64 game in their head at the same time? PLUS: Gallagher finds employment at the Midsommar camp!
GoldenEye stars Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Izabella Scorupco, Famke Janssen, Judi Dench, Joe Don Baker, Robbie Coltrane, Tchéky Karyo, Gottfried John, Alan Cumming, Desmond Llewelyn, Samantha Bond, and Michael Kitchen; directed by Martin Campbell.
Thank you so much for continuing to support our Patreon endeavor. We could not do this without you and we really appreciate getting to entertain you each and every week!

Oh man. I had a similar first email. 7th grade me. What do I like? Ska and punk music. “Theskapunkman241.” 241 is a RBF song. I promptly changed the email address when I got to college out of sheer embarrassment.

The conversation about the Sean Bean twist reminded me that the trailer completely gave away that he was the villain so I knew he was faking his death the first time I saw it. It never even occurred to me that it should have been shocking but the marketing spoiled it for me until now.

First off, Podcast synergy with your guys and Blank Check. You both talked about Q's Sandwhich!!! Second, my college major was drunk/high multiplayer Golden Eye 64, its probably also the reason I had to take Calculus 3 three times. Finally how can any chat about Bond opening music and not mention "Live and Let Die!"

Also a fan of the N64 game and this film is in my top 3 favourite films of all time. One thing I should acknowledge is that this is one of those rare films (no, not Rare films) that the story isn't baby-fed to you. From the end of the title sequence to MI6 headquarters we just see Bond on a mission. Not a word is spoken about what the mission is apart from a few words from Moneypenny in the car and everything is laid out for you to work out what he is up to. This kind of brilliant film-making don't come by very often.

Loved the N64 game discussion, always takes me back when I watch this. Chris “Give me brown cubes shooting each other” amen. I mean, Goldeneye 64, Kid A, and Joe Don Baker riffs, this episode has it all! Looking forward to more WLM.

I'm glad the guys called out that British viewers would have been shocked that Sean Bean supposedly died in the cold open. I'm old enough to have watched this, first time round, and experienced just that, as he was already a national treasure for us. The guys acknowledging the fact also stopped me from shouting at the internet radio. 😁😇

I think the Roger Moore WHM recommendation would be: The Man with the Golden Gun. Christopher Lee is the villain and his third nipple is vital to the story.

This is an all-time bond for me. Brosnan is really never better, The gadgets are practical but don't dominate the story, travelyan is a equal to Bond in a way most villains aren't, and Natalia kind of has her own storyline. There are a lot of reasons this movie stands out and while I'm writing this I keep thinking of even more that I won't bore people with. Great choice for the launch of WLM on patreon. X2 is a must.

I watched this movie while on holiday at the beginning of the year. I had no idea it would come in handy for this podcast.
