Episode 430 - Forrest Gump

On this month's bonus episode, the gang chats about the Oscar-winning, AFI darling, Forrest Gump! Did Forrest sabotage the rest of those shrimp boats using the power of the Lord? How great is Sally Field? And when you boil it down, isn't this film really just about a man bothering people at a bus stop?

Forrest Gump stars Tom Hanks, Sally Field, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Kurt Russell; directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Thank you for continuing to support this crazy, weird thing called  WHM. We could not do this without you!

The Genesis Device!

Allison

Holy shit! Is this the Genesis of The Movie Trailer game?

Matzar

Man, I thought I was the only one on the planet that didn’t like this movie.

Sharon

Whenever my spirit needs a pick me up, I come back to this one and listen to The Usual Suspects rant 😂 "The moron! Did you see him?!" 😂🤣😂 The 44:30 mark for anyone who is interested

Dennis Stack

The almost universal love this movie got in its heyday made me feel that much more alone when I was young

Noura Sarayel

Lt. Dan depressed on New Years is my spirit animal.

Ray,thisisWalter

Glad to see this movie get taken down a few pegs. FOREST GUMP: stealing accomplishments from Black People.

Ray,thisisWalter

btw, it's super cool to hear how far you guys have come politically. like it's really nice to hear you all calling out the racism and the boomer perception of socialism.

Araña

i saw this movie once in college, and dumbass that i was my friends and i did a drinking game to it. we drank so much and got so rowdy we had the cops called on us and i nearly died of alcohol poisoning. /don't/ drink every time he says "mama".

Araña

g-d, when you all mentioned the fruit company i thought it was gonna be a chiquita banana reference and forrest ended up overthrowing a latin american government.

Araña

Thank you guys for this episode; Although the boomer bashing was a bit much because some did do good things; however, for someone who suffers from severe depression, you had me laughing my ass off. I needed this episode today. I have been going through some rough times and I have to say. This was fucking hilarious.

Melissa

"cause in communism you eat your own babies" good thing there's no one in the offices these days cause I can't stop laughing out loud

Chrissy N

The guys who started the Black Panthers were all born in the 1930s and early 1940s, which makes them part of the Silent Generation. Baby Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964

Robert McCarthy

You guys talked a lot about boomers hating the black panther party... but the members of the black panther party are also now boomers... generational analysis is useless

Anna Stansfield

I like how Forrest sometimes sounds a lot like Al Gore :p

Pete Sharwarko

You have all inadvertently created a film cosmology where Forrest is so lucky because he magically leached all of Jenny’s. Also, for some reason (Steve?) gently singing the Silvestri score which led to the composers as bullies riff was just beautiful

Boots Century

I think Steve thought FG was about Al Gore, he was doing his Gore impersonation the whole time

Smaug

Eric Szyszka with the Love Vigilantes joke made my day! Thank you, Eric!

daniel trice

This episode is worth a Patreon subscription all by itself and I wish I had friends as discerning as this in 1994 when all my friends liked it

Jesse Bacon

these are the best! please do more take downs of big-budget movies that tend to be remembered fondly today. My all time WHM episodes are definitely ones like Three men and a baby, mrs doubtfire, and yeah now forrest gump. Best line was the "shroud of turin" happy face. too good take my money.

Kurt Ellis

Boy do I here this fucking movie

Geoffrey Zoref

I was a fan of the greatest hits soundtrack when I was a kid. A whole generation of kids more into classic rock than current rock. Needless to say, I was a fifty year old in a high schooler's body. No Nirvana for me!

Alex Miraski

I still love this movie but I'm not American, I live in the UK, so maybe its because of the American history/pop culture references that ages it poorly for an American viewer today?

Tim Ward

Had the VHS of this movie and my parents wore it the fuck down. And as an adult this movie has had astounding diminishing returns, especially when there was that Family Guy episode that just showed the parts of Jenny ditching Forrest at intermittent points of his life till ultimately she passes away. DOES SHE OR DOES SHE NOT ALSO INFECT HIM WITH HIV???? Seriously how is this totally glossed over?????

Daniel Garcia

Also has a below average IQ but will still die with more money then most Gen X or Millenials will

Dan sulin

Teacher needed a break from you damn kids!! Forest Gump is a good three days of Class wasting for HighSchool

Dan sulin

You take the high road and I'll take the low road...

Andrew Burt

I have cousins who were obsessed with Forrest Gump when we were kids. No joke, they would actually play as Bubba and Lt. Dan. I have a special hatred for this movie.

Andrew Burt

It still astounds me that there's a real life chain restaurant that came out of this movie!

Unicorn Trista

Your Forrest Gump impression is getting dangerously close to Tobolowsky. I want a bit where it’s the two of them sitting down for an “Inside the Actor’s Studio”- type show.

Jarrod Hornbeck

No joke, my mother owns a Forest Gump commemorative sweater and as a child (and also today) I was confused as to why there's a large feather on it...

Lindsey

If you want another boomer problems movie, check out "The Big Chill". I watched it last year for the 1st time. Afterwards, I was like "Man, that generation has never suffered any adversity." (Unless you're queer, POC, single mother, etc.)

Havo

side note, in many articles they say Jenny doesn't have HIV, she has Hep c. . . . although they never say it

Toaden

*rabble rabble pitchfork rabble*

Jon Brubeck

That episode of The Simpsons was terrible

Swan Benson

god I'm dying here. all these post 80's Forrest scenarios are hilarious.

Frank Grimes

This movie was part of the one-two Philadelphia and Gump punch that landed Tom Hanks as an immortal Hollywood star. We can thank it for the role it played in that wonderful occurance.

Alexander Farr

Well, we've got an episode right up there with Mortal Kombat and Pippi Longstocking.

Brian Moore

Forrest Gump is the fucking Baby Boomers’ model citizen: dumb, clean cut, follows orders and doesn’t question authority.

Paul

Definitely heard Eric say cum. I feel like he wanted to but the restraint was just unreal lol

Jason Banks

My name is Forrest and I was 10 when this movie came out so I fucking hate it, although I suspect that would be the case regardless. Because it's horrible.

Forrest Lillibridge

Kurt Russell?! Wait. WHERE?!?!

Tyrone Grizz

I rewatched this 10 years ago and it's ok to like a movie, but it's a piece of shit. We HAD to watch it in school when I was 14 for who knows why.

Luke Jacobs

I’m screaming Braveheart in my apartment.

Kyle

🎶what if god was a mediocre white man with an intellectual disability🎶

Johnny Wrong

I always laugh at the scene when he says: "I went to see the president...again" (Forrest rolls eyes), like it was such a common occurrence. Or in the end when he tells us Lt. Dan signed him up for some fruit company...shit if he had them stocks then and until now, woo boy
