The Doors- The End

Comments

Hey Amber, It looks like you may have the opportunity for another ‘The Beatles’ biopic reaction at some point in your future : https://www.darkhorizons.com/the-beatles-biopics-cast-all-four-wives/

"... there is a sequel: Eddie and the Cruisers - Eddie Lives!..." wow, spoiler alert ... J/K 😉 And BTW, ‘On The Dark Side’ is an awesome song: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk0Kckv-tqQ&list=RDWk0Kckv-tqQ&start_radio=1&pp=ygUVU29uZyBvbiB0aGUgZGFyayBzaWRloAcB

Amber, you mentioned that The Doors (1991) is your favorite movie about a musician or musical group. How do you feel about movies about fictional music groups? I offer you six movies about fictional bands: Eddie and the Cruisers (1983) Told in present day (80's) and in flashback. A television newswoman picks up the story of a 1960s rock band whose long-lost leader Eddie Wilson may still be alive, while searching for the missing tapes of the band's never-released album. I predict you will like Michael Paré as Eddie. If you like the movie, there is a sequel: Eddie and the Cruisers - Eddie Lives! (1987) The Commitments (1991) An all-white working-class Irish band decides to switch to playing soul music: "Do you not get it, lads? The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once, say it loud: I'm black and I'm proud." Almost Famous (2000) A high-school boy in the early 1970s is given the chance to write a story for Rolling Stone magazine about an up-and-coming rock band as he accompanies them on their concert tour. This is semi-autobiographical as the writer-director Cameron Crowe actually was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone in the 70's and many scenes from the movie actually did happen with Crowe there to witness them (although it was an amalgam of different bands involved.) Sons for the fictional band, Stillwater, were written by Crowe and Heart's Nancy Wilson. This Is Spinal Tap (1984) A "mockumentary" of the fictional band Spinal Tap, "one of England's loudest bands." Comedians Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer wrote the movie and star as the band members. If you've ever seen the meme "Mine goes to 11", this is where it came from. That Thing You Do (1996) A local Pennsylvania band scores a one-hit wonder in 1964 and rides the star-making machinery as long as they can, with lots of help from their manager. It's got Tom Hanks and Liv Tyler -- what more do you need? A Mighty Wind (2003) "Mockumentary" captures the reunion of 1960s folk trio the Folksmen as they prepare for a show at The Town Hall to memorialize a recently deceased concert promoter. The show not only includes The Folksmen (based on the actual Kingston Trio, and played by the same trio that plays Spinal Tap) but also fictional groups New Main Street Singers (based on the New Christy Minstrels) and Mitch & Mickey (based on Ian & Sylvia.) The songs are parodies of the folk genre rather than of specific songs, but it's a hoot.

Love The Doors. This song was used during the climax scene on Francis Ford Coppola's epic movie Apocalypse Now. A great movie on Vietnam and the futility of war. I know you love Charlie Sheen. It stars his father Martin Sheen, that Charlie looks so much like. It also stars Marlin Brando and Robert Duvall. It won 2 Oscars. So many quotable lines came from that movie. Amazing that this song was the last track on their very first album. It set the stage for their future greatness.

I have recommended this to you many times over the last few years. Glad you got to it!! This song originated with improvised lyrics by Morrison while on stage at the famed Whiskey a Go Go on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. You should react to the movie "Apocalypse Now", this song is used in the opening sequence, it is really an impressive start to the movie.

So cool!

Thank you again. You could never have done this before your own show, & you're absolutely right about Jim, the song, and you should've been one of us at the time. (My band opened for The Doors in Colorado Springs in 1967 -- wish you were there, lol*) 💜🩵💙

Now you need to watch the movie Apocalypse Now - They use The End in the opening scene with Martin Sheen having a breakdown and it's *chef's kiss*
