100% and really well said Doug. This definitely was a magical intersection of raw feeling and suffer and trust and art. I think it really speaks to the energy that John and I shared to be able to dive in like this and work with how I was feeling in a way that didn’t detract from the experience of the moment itsself, the collaborative energy, and the art that was created from it. I feel this same synergy when collaborating with you. I think we got awesome badass imagery at Crossing Hedgerows that captured a really feel good time on a really feel good day because that’s the vibe we were feeling :) These connections are so amazing because they can offer the same catharsis that the self porties offer, which is not easily the case! πŸ’™

These are amazing, of course! But the ones showing your raw emotions are magickal. One of the reasons I loved commissioning self-portraits from you for The Fae Project was because there was just so much more depth and feeling to those images than I could hope to catch in a session where I photographed you. There’s probably a number of reasons for that, one of which includes me being pretty inexperienced as a photographer. But also, because I would have a very hard time asking for the kind of emotional expression that you capture in your self-portrait images β€” and I imagine it would be very hard for you to perform that kind of emotion on demand as well. Given the depths of the pain that you plumb for your self-portraiture, and the catharsis you seek within it, I feel like it would be super hard to access that authentically and still have a positive experience take place between the photographer and model.
