Keep In Touch With Yourself

It’s easier to jump from one distraction to the next. Humans are addicted to distracting themselves from personal introspection. Through constant socializing and media, you could go an entire lifetime without really looking at yourself. But what happens when the power and internet are down and you’re all alone with nothing but your thoughts? Is it comfortable? 

I often use editing as a way to dissociate and avoid thinking through anxious thoughts and feelings. It works, but often times hours go by and when I’m not checking in with my thoughts I’m not checking in with my body either. I often find myself finishing an edit bone cold and hungry, as I didn’t notice these needs as they came up. It’s kinda fascinating and strange how I can bring myself out of my own body. And should probably start setting alarms on my phone to come back... 

How do you check out and when does it stop being a tool to catch a break and start to become a habit of avoidance? It’s a fine line for me.
