It's Salt and Light week!
Added 2020-03-02 02:48:44 +0000 UTCJesus is landing the plane on part one of the Sermon on the Mount, and in doing so, he uses two very important metaphors that require a little bit o' thinkin' to figure out the manner in which he's employing them.
I'm having fun. I hope you are too!

I listened to this weeks episodes today and it was quite apropo as I was repairing the lighting in a 120 year old house. As I was dancing along the uneven joists trying not to plumet through the ceiling while pulling my wire, I came to a realization. A realization that I don't seem to hear talked about and one that may not make any sense. :) Light permeates. That is absolutely true. But it aint easy. The natural state is darkness. Light is unnatural in "the worldly kingdom" so to speak. Candles die out, light bulbs stop working, power lines fall down. Even the sun will die one day. We say be a light in the darkness like it's just that easy. Turn the flashlight on and be a beacon. But where candles a cheap commodity back then? AS I run up and down flights of stairs to gather tools and such, I'm thinking no. I'm thinking to be a city on the hill was not an easy proposition. It required a healthy economy and sturdy infrastructure. A shining city isn't just a beacon, but a signal of strength and prosperity. At least, that's what I'm thinking. To be a shining city on the hill is tough. The hardest thing you will ever work toward. But the light that you slave for, it is worth it. It will break through the darkness, no matter how dim. And the lost who are searching for light will find you. So shine on. ...what? I get poetic when I can't feel my legs. :)
