The Quarry vs modding

Now let's talk about the subject at hand, which is The Quarry, aka me vs the world. Remember how my solution was copied and repackaged by three other individuals - while the only (minor) difference from my fix had to do with the technical limitations of their implementation? In the meantime, 2K or whoever moderates the Steam forums for them, constantly removed all mentions of my fix.

Earlier this week, people celebrated an update that removed Denuvo from the game, but what I noticed is that the update replaced it with the same, seemingly in-house anti-cheat as seen in Midnight Suns. Unlike Denuvo, it was a real obstacle for modding and there were two people almost spamming me with reports of the game crashing with my fix.

I found a way to disable one of the parts of the anti-cheat and I released it as a hotfix, an extra for the existing trainer. For the past days, I programmed an alternative solution that would not require disabling the cheat check and it was rather challenging for me, given my usual focus on the low level rather than writing in C. I'd still prefer to do the former any day, but I found a way to achieve the goal. The problem is that it targets a slightly different operation and so I can't guarantee it's just as surgical. If it were a new fix downloaded by 10 or fewer, I'd probably put this out to the public without thinking, but is it reasonable to go against the well-tested fix downloaded over 8,500 times?

So I think the best course of action for now is to share it with you, though make sure to download it, as its fate is still unclear! To use, just extract the files to the game folder to \SMG026\Binaries\Win64\

* I didn't, as I have a long track record of modding games with Denuvo and I've never run into an issue within my legitimate scope. The reported behavior of this game was absolutely uncharacteristic of Denuvo.
