Shinkansen from Subway to Seat
Added 2017-07-02 04:15:17 +0000 UTCI was planning to go to Kyoto and before I arrived at Tokyo Station I said to myself why not live stream it? I spent about 3 minutes planning an episode in my mind -- I'll leave the Marunouchi Line's Tokyo Station and take viewers on a ride from ticket vending machine to bento store to the train ... would it be interesting? I really didn't know but that's not a reason NOT to do it. Making content never ensures a hit. With YouTube, it's hard to know what people will enjoy. Videos I spend days (weeks) making sometimes never get popular and some that take me a few hours to plan and a couple of days to edit do extremely well (Japanese Ice Cream Challenge has 5M views! I made it in 2.5 days!)
The decision to do live streams was easy! Since I'm always on location and seeing new things, it's a chance to show you stuff I'd never make an episode from, like this. What a waste NOT to do it! It's always up to the viewer if they want to watch and up to the creator to do the best job they can to make the experience interesting -- or no one will watch now or ever again.
So -- that is why I'm so very appreciative of the support on Patreon. And that's why I can make stuff like this. The freedom to focus on -- FREEDOM! Thank you for that freedom and even if you don't like the live streams, these help me improve the content on the main channel by thinking on new levels.
I watched this for the first time this morning and wasn't bored by it. It's unedited and not too bad. If I focus too much on shots and angles, I can miss opportunities. So i have to quickly use my judgement in this new format and it's very very refreshing! If you have any suggestions for live streams or if you're visiting Tokyo and want to be on one, let me know! J

Yaya ! Yeah Let's Do A Live Show :) I'm in the early planning stages to travel to Japan. I was invited to go to Tokyo and I'm supposed to go with a group of women. Looking forward to the next videos you talked about on the Kickstarter update, the Chiba Edamame, and the DVD. Keep up the GREAT work!

2017-07-03 00:08:23 +0000 UTCI particularly like the GO channel because it takes you out of your element and you never know what is going to happen. I'm still a fan of the produced shows, but I was hooked when you were hitchhiking. I also like when you interact with people like Jennifer, Pete, and the people on the street like the kids in Kyoto. In my opinion, the reason the ice cream challenge got so many views is they saw a petit Japanese lady beat a guy. That was awesome!

2017-07-02 20:23:16 +0000 UTChahahah! That super 5L sized cone is beyond anything at DQ :P Thanks for the support -- I can't see those chats enough to answer. By the time I read half, it's gone! And the trolls are bad too but I turn it off and try to focus on the fun aspect. For Q&A I look at the chats but really my goal is to try to bring you with me and I hope there's more ways to interact with you in the future. YouTube always has something new coming out that surprises me. YEAH!!! If you come to Tokyo, let's do a live show! It really gets the people around you excited too! -john

2017-07-02 17:10:25 +0000 UTCI totally agree! When I have the phone broadcasting on that DJI Osmo, it gets people curious enough to join the stream :) super awesome when that happens!

2017-07-02 17:06:22 +0000 UTCReally liked the live stream! Although I was a bit worried that the train with your backback would depart without you :) Keep doing them and don't worry about some negative comments! I'm sure for every one of them there are at the very least 100 people that liked it and just did not comment at all. Some of the most interesting moments are when something unplanned happens, like when you met all those school kids in Kyoto - I think that's only possible live :)

2017-07-02 09:30:46 +0000 UTCLove live streams ! Its a fascinating way to experience the people and places in Japan. That was a super live steam of the Japanese frozen soft serve cream. I was at Dairy Queen at the same time while my niece and nephew was eating soft serve cream. My sister was blown away and we couldn't stop laughing at the size of the cone with a square base and brain freeze lol ! She had never seen YouTube. See what I mean.? This person mentioned that they watched the ramen cake live stream that was posted later but lost interest in it. People want more interaction during the live streams. I see that in the live chat that blows by sometimes at speeds that are ridiculous. Do what you want and have a great time. You are doing a great job, you can't please everyone. I encourage you to keep being creative, keep thinking on new levels, and don't allow the negative comments to determine the flow of what you are producing. I can't imagine the percentage of Feedback you get with over 500,000 + subscribers. What you are doing is inspiring people to visit Japan. I find live streaming to be entertaining and bold. I would totally be in a live stream if you are there when I visit Tokyo ... I think π
