Because we're all special snowflakes, and we need to be reminded how special that individuality is. the more other culture appropriate your culture the more they become bias to your culture that give your culture prestige and in turn generate more money. just look at Japan and Korea. so why are you guys listening to idiots/imbecile as Confucius said “When a wise man points at the moon the imbecile examines the finger.”

I get your point, and it does have merit. However, I think the bottom line is that you can only be as close as a guest in the culture you want to participate in. That is if something has an origin, it shouldn't be replicated without proper dues being paid. Your content will have substance and soul of that culture at the very least and authenticity. Eg. cuisine can't be sold and marketed as said culture's food if you never spent the years to study the cuisine.

Do people genuinely care? I feel like every day there is a more trivial "cultural appropriation" story.

Personally, I think cultural appropriation is only an issue when a stronger country does it to a weaker or "poor" country. Since China is now neck to neck with the US and is actually ahead of most "white" or "western" countries, I don't think culturally appropriating Chinese things will matter as much. In fact I think the Chinese government might actually like it if "white" or "western" people appropriate Chinese culture, since that is a sign that their cultural or "soft power" is increasing and they're having an influence in how the world functions outside of the military or "hard power".
