Brittany's Belly - Part 2

“Brittany, is that you?” She could hear the sweet voice of her mom, Diane, coming from the otherside of the doorway.
“Yep!” She called back eagerly as she crossed into the other room.
“Brittany Ann Peterman! What have you done to yourself?!?” Her mothers sweet tone, instantly gone shrill.
Brittany stood there, her blonde hair done up in her ponytail as always, her loose top draped over her shoulder and covering her modest chest, but leaving her bulged belly out in full view. Her painted nails matched her lips, as she looked fully the part of a stuck up sorority girl.
“What are you talking about mom?” Brittany huffed, having not received the warm welcome home she was expecting.
“That thing!” Her mom pointed a slender finger straight at her daughter's round stomach. “And for god's sake, can’t you at least cover it up!”
Brittany noticed for the first time just how far the hem of her shirt was from her pants, and quickly attempted to rectify the situation, only to learn there wasn’t much hope there. “Whatever mom, this shirt must have just shrunk in the laundry.” Brittany scoffed.
“I don’t think so missy. And what is on your lips? And have you even seen your nails? What has gotten into you?!” Diane looked at Brittany like she was a grotesque wildebeest who had just wandered into the house.
“Ugh, mom, you’re being so not cool. No wonder I was so much happier at college.” Brittany huffed, crossing her arms, which conveniently rested just on top of her small domed belly.
“Well this is not college, and I’m not running a fraternity! No daughter of mine is going to let herself go like this. You’re going to be on a strict diet all summer young lady, you hear me?” Her mom’s hard ass tone sounded so serious, Brittany certainly didn’t miss being told what to do.
“Umm it’s a sorority.” She corrected her mother. “And you’ve got to be kidding me, a diet? Mom, you are so over reacting.” So what if Brittany had gained the freshman 15? It wasn’t a big deal to her. She had spent 18 years abiding by the nutrition standards set forth by her mother, and finally she had been given some freedom to explore some additional calories. What was the problem if that came with a few additional pounds? Most of the other girls at school had done the same, so Brittany felt that her mother should keep her thoughts to herself.
Only Brittany had been honest with herself, she would have noticed it was more than just the freshman 15. Lite beer still had calories, and they added up once you had as many drinks per week as Brittany had become accustomed to. Plus she couldn’t count the number of leftover slices of pizza she had consumed to quell her morning hunger. For these, and countless other reasons, Brittany had gained closer to 30 or 40 pounds over the last eight months.
Diane was still fuming at the sight of her transformed daughter. Gone was the timid high schooler with the perfect 4.0 GPA. Instead what had returned from college was a neon pink clothed, dolled up, belly heavy brat. Before she could lay into her anymore, outlining exactly how her diet would work and discussing an exercise plan, her youngest daughter, Brittany’s only sister Stephanie, came bouncing into the room to greet her sibling. That was until she rounded the corner with too much excitement and going in for a surprise hug resulted in the smaller girl bouncing straight off her bigger sister's newly formed belly.
“Damn sis, where did you get that thing?” Stephanie giggled.
Disgruntled that her homecoming was going nowhere near as planned, she was not in the mood for her sister's jokes. “Steph, it’s not a ‘thing’.” She seethed, using air quotes. “In fact it’s nothing.” She tried to finally get the topic away from her belly. “How about a ‘how was your first year of school Brittany?’ or a ‘Welcome home, we prepared a nice dinner for you’.”
Her mom laughed. “Dinner, yeah right. It’s going to be nothing but salads for you.” Her mom gave another passing glance at her daughter's new bulge before shivering in disgust. “I won’t have you disgracing the Peterman family name in this town looking like that. Now take your things up to your room, I’ll have your healthy dinner ready in about an hour.” Diane threw her arms up and left for the kitchen.
