Update on the End of September Update

Hello all,

Unfortunately, this month was plagued by (mostly) real life problems, and so progress in terms of adding additional resource mechanics was a bit slow. To top it off, there's a gamebreaking bug that's currently being sorted out that makes capturing footage correctly of the new additions impossible, so it'll probably be about another week or two before I can actually post update screenshots/videos here. I am also thinking it may be best to not include a community poll in October, since it would make more sense to just continue working on these resource updates, and I've also been spending time cleaning up a lot of existing sprites, UI bits, etc to get more general game footage, since some Youtubers have requested additional raw footage that they can use for some videos they want to make on DORF (exposure is important!).

However, there's also been a very positive development as of late; DORF will likely be getting a second programmer very soon, so development of critical new features (such as rendering engine changes, fixes to unit pathing and attack, and fixing up the terrible map editor) should be coming much more quickly now.


Sorry for the very brief post, but expect an update with more substantial content to roll out in about a week or two.

That is a good point, though in general DORF will be less APM-heavy (especially compared against competitive games like Starcraft). The game does feature naval and amphibious combat units though, so land units unloading from naval transports would not be completely helpless.

Happy to hear the crew is getting bigger. I guess I do have a question about trains and transports in general: in a lot of RTS games, amphibious landings suffer from this: you make units, load them into transports, move the transports, unload units, and then you fight. Meanwhile, your opponent has a fraction of the APM load. Are there ways/systems to streamline transport usage?
