When it comes to doing this or just "reverse engineering" the original encounters, I have more fun just adding up the OG CRs into Kobold Fight Plus and then reconstructing the encounters. When running published adventures it gives me a chance to inject my own flavor and flair to the encounters. I also tend to run ~6 players so they do very easily handle deadly encounters.
