I wasn't always sure how to capture erotica type of work when I was a lot newer to this. Not to say that I am not master at it today, but, I think I understand it more here in 2025 and moving forward.
To me, these shots of Nevaeh are just "decently lit shots of a erotic model" and don't really capture much beyond that. As she did a lot of "adult" magazine work, she immediately went down that direction on camera; something I repeatedly tried to coach her away from as we shot.
She didn't do anything "wrong" and she was pleasant to work with, but I did not do the session justice because I didn't really know what I was trying to capture. I knew what I didn't want to capture (which, as I said, I coached her away from) but I didn't have a clear vision overall. So, these ended up, as I said, "photos of an erotic model". And not anything with more depth because I simply didn't have the right idea at the time.
As I get closer to the release of my first erotica book, starting in mid February, I realize how much I've grown. I also realize how much I still have to explore. The idea of capturing and expressing and even celebrating eroticism, of course, is not going to sit well with everyone. I understand that it can be subversive to some, and that's OK.
I know that finding my balance is the key. I've never been ashamed of anything I've shot, but that's the whole point isn't it? It shouldn't be about shame. It should be about the exploration and expression of art as you see it. Or want to see it.
Ever forward.
