Hello Allies! With the announcement of the PS5 Slim versions, the Slim Digital now has a disc drive you can buy for it. Do you think that will be the baseline for the PS6? Will there only be a PS6 Digital edition with an optional disc drive attachment you can purchase separately? Are the rumors of Best Buy no longer selling physical media beginning in 2024 a sign of things to come? Love & Respect

2023-10-12 21:40:25 +0000 UTCWouldn’t say it’s my favourite, but since I don’t see anyone else mentioning it, Psycho Goreman is a blast. Definitely leaning toward the comedy side of horror comedy, but the practical effects are SO good and can be truly horrific sometimes, even when they’re simultaneously hilarious.

My 3 favorite films of all time are also my 3 favorite movies about aliens and my 3 favorite horror movies, Alien, Aliens, and Russell Crowe's The Thing. How The Thing was originally received is a travesty, you might as well tell me that people in 1982 didn't like pizza or ice cream. And it may have really harmed John Carpenter's career at the time since I think he had to return to smaller projects, but maybe that is a blessing in disguise since I think he shines brighter with a smaller budget. I can't think of any Halloween day memories, but Halloween the movie memories. I used to like a lot of the sequels when I was a child, but have since grown to see how inferior they are, but I think their existence actually elevates the original Halloween even higher. This gave me an idea for a Reaction Shots theme suggestion: movies you saw way younger than you should, or younger than the intended audience, and how that affected you for good or bad. While other kids were watching kids movies over and over again in the 90s I was watching Alien and Aliens and Halloween repeatedly. I basically went straight from Thomas the Tank Engine to Alien

From the writer/director of Monster Squad (and the terrible Predator reboot that just happened recently, but we won't talk about that): Night of the Creeps: Super fast alien slugs invade college during the 80s, turning co-eds into zombies! Notable performances from several "Hey I know that guy!" actors such as Jason Lively (Blake's brother), David Paymer, Tom Adkins and more! One liners, coming of age story, buddy comedy, romance, practical effects/makeup crew being zombies in the film, flamethrowers... it's got it all! My favorite halloween "movie" memory is me working at Home Depot, putting together a wearable shower costume like the one Daniel wore in The Karate Kid. I wore it at work all day, It weighed 50lbs and was so big I couldn't safely climb a ladder or get through the door to the break room. Went out after work to meet my friends at a bar and they wouldn't even let me in wearing the costume. I basically just walked around in a bathrobe and slippers the whole night. Shower Larusso is still one of the greatest movie Halloween costumes ever.

2023-10-11 14:51:35 +0000 UTCAside from the GOATs Alien and The Thing, my favourite aliens related movie is 1997's Contact with Jodie Foster. It's the warm blanket of alien scifi and a movie that just get me in a good mood whenever I watch it. But this is Spooktober so I need to mention The Fourth Kind from 2009 starring Milla Jovovich and Elias Koteas. It is perhaps not the greatest movie, but it has a gritty X-files vibe and uses scrambled video and audio to great effect. The couch scene is genuinely creepy. And shout out to Gareth Edwards' Monsters from 2010. It's more of a road movie, but presents a really uniquie spin on the alien invasion genre. We also need to mention some fun classics - Mars Attacks and Evolution - both dumb comedies that play with horror elements. Classic Anime of the Month is Goku Midnight Eye, in memory of Buichi Terasawa, who sadly passed away last month at 68. He also wrote one of my all time favourite manga/animes Space Adventure Cobra, and I recently saw this cyberpunk detective story for the first time. It follows the badass ex cop turned private investigator Goku, who fights crime and corruption with his cybernetic eye that lets him access and hack any computer on the planet. Rest In Peace, mr Terasawa. Next month I promise I'll recommend something animated in accordance with the Reaction Shots theme! Love & respect!

They Live is a film that deserves a remake so much, Fourth Kind I think is underrated and kind of a creepy take on the abduction story and Cloverfield. The first time I saw it, it was at home and the scene when they go underground legitimately made me check myself because the "crawlies" felt very dimensional. (If that's a thing) Cool world and it's a shame that Paradox killed the potential franchise.

2023-10-10 14:55:14 +0000 UTCAs it so happens I just last night watched No One Will Save You, the new alien home invasion movie on Hulu. I thought It was thrilling! And with nearly no dialogue and a divisive ending, I know I'm going to be thinking about it for days. Recommend. There was about a two year period in my childhood where I had an irrational fear of being abducted out of my bed by aliens, as a result ufo movies have always fascinated and terrified me especially. My horror movie white whale is Fire in the Sky, I still have not built up the courage to watch it, but some day. And just to be spicy here's my ranking of the alien movies: Alien, Aliens, Alien Covenant, AVP, Alien Resurrection, Prometheus, Alien 3, AVP Requiem Please don't ban me ok bye!

While the story is not revolutionary, the presentation is still unmatched. And the while the themes are simple, they are masterfully executed. Truly, one of the greatest movies ever made. On the subject of "what we watched recently", The Wheel of Time had one of the best fantasy season finales of all time and Ahsoka was the best swashbuckling Star Wars since maybe the original trilogy. What a great time for genre shows. PS: GenV rules!!
