Yes you could go play Call of Cthulhu, which is a game system designed specifically for telling stories about characters spiraling into insanity. It has an excellent sanity tracking mechanic. It’s great! Would recommend.
But- what if you don’t want to learn a new system, or perhaps you just want One portion of your D&D campaign to be dedicated to some eldritch horror, or emotional trauma?
Well, I have designed a series of simple and flexible mechanics that can be easily tweaked and applied to many D&D-like TTRPGs.
