Why The Matrix: Reloaded's Fights are SO BORING

Did you love The Matrix? I loved The Matrix. Were you a bit...disappointed with the sequels? Yeah, me too. Let's talk about why via the medium of the fights. Of which...there are many.

This video contains extra content instead of the sponsor read that will be on the main YouTube video.

Normally these 'videos plus extra rambling at the end' will only be available to people from the $3 tier up, but since I'm still getting used to the format, this one is available to all Patrons regardless of tier. If you'd like to see the future ones, you need to make sure you have one of the $3 or above tiers ticked in your...settings...I'm not exactly sure how it works, I haven't pledged to anyone new in ages. If you get stuck, message me and we'll work it out together!

Why The Matrix: Reloaded's Fights are SO BORING

About the only thing that's worth a special notice about fights from the 3rd film (in my opinion at least) is the fight between Neo and Smith in the real world. It's a very big tonal departure from a series that had become addicted to pure spectacle and CGI. It's a bit of a call back to the feeling that was present in the Smith vs Morpheus fight from the first film in a way, but it's also a nice show of just how different the Matrix and the "real world" are, and fights in the real world are nasty, brutish things. There are no particularly fancy moves or great martial arts, just a couple of desperate guys trying to grab anything that can be used as a weapon or slam each other into something solid. It makes a nice contrast, and it does make it feel genuinely magical when Neo suddenly gains Matrix enlightenment and whips out a bit of fancy kung fu to disable Smith. It would be much better if there had been more solid development of the whole "Neo is the bridge between machine and humanity" theme, but it is what it is. I'm an old fan but only just recently saw that you were regularly putting out content again. I'm still catching up on your fight videos, but so far I've greatly enjoyed all the ones I've seen. I'm looking forward to seeing more, and in particular seeing more of the better quality live action fight scenes. (It would be a delight, for example, to watch you do your thing with scenes like the climactic sword fight in Rob Roy, which is near and dear to my heart.) It's already been informative and entertaining watching the videos for the last Agni Kai, the Matrix, the Star Wars sequels, etc. I'm looking forward to more and thankful for the time and energy you invest to break these scenes down in a fun and lighthearted manner.

You missed nothing. Go watch Jupiter Ascending instead. It will baffle you. You will laugh, you will cry, you will wonder what the hell Eddie Redmayne is doing.

Excellent summation of why the 2nd movie is such a disappointment! I've yet to watch the third movie. Nothing anyone has ever told me suggests that avoiding it was a poor life choice.
