Them songs work so hard, and hit so well
2022-12-11 09:02:06 +0000 UTCIt's not even that the lady doing the singing for the character (it isn't Loren Allred, I learned recently) is BAD, she's probably better than everyone else in the film, it's just...it kind of threw me off a bit, you know? I mean it's not quite 'having a Christine from The Phantom of the Opera moment' but it did feel a bit odd.

2019-02-11 02:36:42 +0000 UTCThis is a major problem I have with entertainment about great artists, at some point you expect them to put up. It isn't really fair to have as a character one of the great voices of the 19th century because people expect to hear her sing. I also had this problem with Once, claiming you character is a brilliant songwriter doesn't work when the songs you show are distinctly meh. I suppose authors or poets you can get away with it more (either by not showing or stealing existing work) but it is a common enough trap you think people would know to avoid it
