Batman Begins | Full Watch Along

So, funny story. But I was walking into these Batman stories expecting something closer to a Spider-Man origin story. You know... a man gets bit by a bat then boom, Batman 🀣 But what I actually stepped into was something so much darker and far more layered than anything I predicted.

This was a story of someone who built his own heroism, brick by painful brick. It felt like a myth being forged in the shadows. Every line hit deeply. Every note that Hans Zimmer blasted us with shot straight through my heart. There was so much weight here. Trauma. Fear. And the courage to not run from it but instead to become it was so inspirational!

I found myself completely swept up in Bruce's journey. I love how the line from V for Vendetta rang so true here. Ideas are bulletproof. And Bruce didn't just become a symbol but also chose what that symbol should really mean. It wasn't flashy. It wasn't destiny handed to him on a silver platter. It was earned through heartbreak, discipline, sacrifice, and a whole lot of internal wrestling on what is right vs wrong. It was a character study at its core. And it punched through the darkness with flickers of hope in the most intense ways.

The atmosphere the entire time felt thick. Poetic. A city gasping for redemption, a man learning to breathe through his own wounds to save it, and a story that tells us fear isn't a curse. It's a compass to greatness if you let it.

I came here because you all told me I need to watch this trilogy. But I left feeling like I was a fan all along. We watched a legend being born from the shadows. I'm so glad all of my expectations were blown out of the water completely in the best ways.

See you all in the next one! I can't wait!

Kali, well I finally found my way over here! Great reaction! The next movie is alright, I mean, most people think it's top 5 all time in cinema history, but yeah, alright, passable popcorn flick. Lol 🀣 Can't wait for you to watch it.

Matt Rowland

Yes so many suggestions for this!

Kali Wali

So I’m sure others probably said the same thing but after you finish this trilogy you’re probably going to want more, so you should play the Batman Arkham Series. Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins, and Arkham Knight. You will not regret it at all

Eric Capretta

Thank you for the headsup!

Kali Wali

BTW, just so you won't be thrown off - Rachel was recast in The Dark Knight.

Malcolm Ferguson

I definitely want to give those Batman movies a watch too!

Kali Wali

I'm so sorry for your loss 🀍 That scene definitely captures how much that feeling of loss can change who you are forever. I can't imagine how much that moment must have resonated with you.. Thank you for sharing

Kali Wali

Oh man.. I definitely do! Is Asylum the first of the games I'm assuming??

Kali Wali

Oh maaaaaan. Reading through these comments, I'm seeing another sequel that is equally as good or even BETTER than the original and now I can't wait to dive into The Dark Knight this week! And I can't wait to dive into more Batman eventually! I was not expecting this kind of depth in an origin story and I loved it so much for that.. It would be really neat to move through them like I did with the Spider-Mans and compare/contrast their styles and feel eventually!

Kali Wali

No need to apologize! I totally deserved the laugh for thinking batman was created by a man being bitten by a bat like spider-man LOL. Looking back now it's pretty hilarious and I still chuckle at myself for expecting that πŸ€£πŸ˜… It was a LOT of fun seeing Batman's true origin in this. It was incredible and had way more heart in it than I could have ever imagined! Becoming a bat because he is traumatized by them? Genius and full of so much soul.. You're also really right about that impossible "love" angle too. The whole "I care about you, but I'll put you in danger" theme just hurts in the best superhero way every time. So much that I find myself angry at it now LOL And yes! Cillian Murphy was so incredible here! I'm glad this was my first introduction to him. He went from really charming and beautiful to absolutely terrifying in seconds πŸ˜… then he just had the face of someone that you'd like to punch the smug look off his face and THAT transition to me shows just how great he was in this role! I've had Peaky Blinders on my list for ages! Even since before I started a reaction channel lol. So it would be really neat to watch it with you all eventually! Also I'm really glad you decided to take a change on rewatching these with me! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Kali Wali

I felt that too honestly! Just because of all the talented actors embedded in this movie! Soooo many familiar faces that are known for brilliance and it definitely shows. But then the action, tech, and one-liners brought us right back into the 'wait, this IS a superhero movie" feel and I loved it for that! It made it all really enjoyable honestly

Kali Wali

I need to watch some Michael Keaton Batman/Bruce Wayne to compare after!

Kali Wali

Ah yes, I agree with your disagreement there lol. This film was full of SO much heart. This one felt so grounded and emotional. Yes a lot of that had to do with the 'style' and the way Zimmer delivered certain notes, but every scene and note felt so intentional that it added so much depth to it all! I love how you put it. That Bruce taking Al Ghul's ideas and infused them with compassion.. Because YES. That is the difference between vengeance and justice. Its what makes the entire journey so powerful and mean somthing. I think that is honestly what I noticed the most about this movie coming out of it after a first watch... How much heart and philosophy there was underneath all the flashy action ❀️‍πŸ”₯

I often hear the complaint that boils down to "Nolan films are all style and no substance." I wholeheartedly disagree. Yes they are usually stunning visually, but what I love most is the character stories. The humanity. I really loved how we got to see Bruce go from childhood trauma, wanting personal vengeance, to a sense of justice. He took the ideas of Ras Al Ghoul which were emotionless and merciless and added compassion thereby bringing balance and true justice to his fight against the criminal underworld. This movie was about Bruce Wayne's personal battle. Not about superhero vs villains. I'm glad you were able to pick up on that too! A lot of people I've watched it with and other commentators or reactors haven't.

Michael Keaton is still the best batman and Bruce Wayne. But Christian Bale is pretty good nonetheless.

Raymond Guerra

These movies feel more like Nolan films than Superhero flicks to me. He's just such an extraordinary storyteller and is so good at attracting great actors and inspiring them to extraordinary performances. Some of the jokes and one-liners ground it as a superhero movie but Nolan's films are in a class of their own.

While this trilogy is very good, it all started for me in Batman from 1989 (Tim Burton's take). Batman's back story always remains basically the same but you will find if you decide to watch other iterations of Batman movies, that different directors have different takes on his methods. To find "love" in a superhero flick is pretty next to impossible. It's always the same old story, they can't be too close to someone without risking putting them in danger. Just like Spiderman for Marvel it would seem that Batman is the most beloved character for DC. I respect that but I guess I'm stubborn. My favorite Marvel character will always be Wolverine and my favorite DC character will always be The Flash. (not that last flash movie btw) I used to really like The Flash TV show on the CW. I wasn't sure if I was going to revisit these movies with you but decided to do it anyway. You didn't disappoint. Forgive me for laughing at you for thinking he was bitten by a bat. I guess I find it amazing that in the world we live today that you didn't at least have a small clue about Batman's back story. It was fun to watch you discover it for the 1st time. Cillian Murphy is a great Irish actor. The way he can do his American accent so effortlessly blows my mind because in interviews he is very Irish lol. There is a show on Netflix he was the star in called Peaky Blinders. That's the show that really put him as an actor on the map for me. Look forward to your next reaction, it's probably the best of the 3 in this trilogy.

Looking forward to the The Dark Knight (one of the best Batman films of all time) and The Dark Knight Rises reactions. Although not seen in the other films, the Scarecrow (played by Cillian Murphy) was a surprise villain for this. He appeared in the 90's "Batman: The Animated Series" that was popular. It's fascinating this is your first foray into the Batman franchise. Mine was the Burton films. They all have very similar takes on the origin story, but very different vibes at the same time.

Ricardo de Leon

Well then.. now you have to play the Batman Arkham games. Starting with Asylum

PaulieXP

Kali, I had a feeling you was gonna cry when that guy killed Bruce's parents. I lost my father 3 years ago

JeRon Washington

Honestly, his voice when he tells Rachel "Falcone sent them to kill you" should've been the voice he stuck with. Deeper and more harsh, but not so much that it sounded silly.

Mike Conlin

Christian Bale secretly wants to be a Death Metal singer, but had to settle for Batman role ;) The voice gets more intense..

Scott S

Great reaction. Its such a special trilogy. I honestly don't think anything in the MCU or Snyderverse can compare. Cant wait for the next two. You should give Batman 89 and The Batman 2022 a watch after these as well.
