How People Misunderstand The Boys

Amazon Prime’s superhero series The Boys, particularly its most recent season 3, is one of the most controversial mainstream TV series released. Yet, what’s most interesting is what the show is controversial for.

I LOVED how you pointed out the parallels between George W. Bush & Homelander. I don't think I quite realized how much they were there. Interestingly enough you can further the parallel because Bush Jr. certainly had an inferiority complex compared to Bush Sr. who was a much, much better president than his son (though admittedly that's not hard). Also, I really do disagree with your libertarian/rightwing interpretation of Snyder's films now. I USED to read his superhero films that way, but the Snyder Cut + plus learning Snyder is personally not a rightwinger at all (neither culturally or economically) got me to watch the extended edition of Batman v Superman & I now have a VERY different read on Snyder's work (to be clear while I think the Snyder Cut is good, I still think the extended edition of BvS is not very good). Interestingly enough though, the fact that I disagree with your interpretation of Snyder actually makes me agree even more with point about capitalist mass market consumption is what leads to Homelander & sell products that have no deeper meaning other than a love of power.

Conrad

Should be there now!

Jessie Earl

Ohh, I will!

Jessie Earl

It finally worked. Yay πŸ₯³. Great video as always. That said Iβ€˜m now more sure than ever that I will never ever watch this show. Ultra graphic violence just isnβ€˜t my thing. I already had some problems with ST season 4 in that regard.

DP_Dwarf

Works thank you

TheBufferPiece

Whoops, try it now!

Jessie Earl

The video says it's private, it won't load

TheBufferPiece

Maybe. I just see an endless loading screen. If its age restricted that might be the reason. Iβ€˜m refusing to give YT personal information just to unlock age restricted content over here :/.

DP_Dwarf

Could be because it's age restricted? You should still be able to follow the link from it to watch on youtube.

Never mind. Just saw itβ€˜s patron-only. No idea why it wonβ€˜t load for me though :/

DP_Dwarf

Somehow I donβ€˜t seem to be able to load this video. From the comments Iβ€˜m guessing Iβ€˜m the only one. When will it be up on YT?

JD is an American Character, in Mega-City1, which is in the USA. Wiki- " Marshal Law, is the government-sanctioned "super hero hunter" (aka law enforcement officer, or "cape killer") with superpowers in the city of San Futuro, the near-future metropolis built from the ruins of San Francisco following a massive earthquake. Law's job is to take down other superheroes who have gone rogue, which he does with maximum force and great pleasure.". Ennis and Mills both worked at 2000AD. American Flagg I've never read, so no comment there.

If you like the boys comic you should try Howard Chaykin's American Flagg. It's set in a future were companies run countries. And super heroes[ kind of super heroes. They're really actors)are the police force. Published back in the 80's it's funny in a very scary way. Also it really makes you think that we're kinda living in that world today, or heading in that direction.

Marshal Law is just an American version of Judge Dredd. I know Because I read both of these comics. Both are still really good. Never were half as funny or more forward looking than Howard Chaykin's American Flagg.

To quote one of the reviewers-"Keep the woke nonsense out of things that were never made for it"... Err, go and read the Ennis source material that written over 15 years ago and I think all the social\ political elements are there, they just made them modern. And even 'The Boys' was based on an older anti-establishment graphic book from over 30 years ago by Pat Mills called 'Marshal Law'.
