The Autobiography of Kathryn Janeway REVIEW

I had been not sure if i wanted to pick this up, but hearing your take i'm going to get it, especially with Kate Mulgrew doing the audio book. a long time ago i read "Mosaic" which was written by Jeri Taylor, the co-creator of Voyager, that was the semi-canonical backstory of Janeway during the production of the show (the idea that Janeway's father was an admiral who died when she was young was first in that book before they did the episode about it). it was alright. I've read the Kirk and Picard autobiographies in this series. Kirk's i really liked as it felt more "real" like it made sense with the character of Kirk and what we knew about his life, interweaving this in, and adding in new pieces that made sense. one of those new pieces was that Kirk's first command as a Commander was a tiny rust bucket of a patrol ship making supply runs dealing with Klingons and pirates. (honestly that chapter really intrigued me, imagining a rookie commander on an obsolete ship in the untamed frontier. dodging threat more powerful to deliver vital supplies to outposts and colonies. i remember i had outlined some story notes for fan fic or "file the numbers off" original fiction using my FemShep from Mass Effect as captain. maybe i should go back to that idea?) the gaps in the canon of Kirk's life made the story more grounded in existing Trek lore, like what Kirk was doing between movies. the Picard autobiography was...okay. unlike Kirk, almost all the book was the writer's invention, or interweaving different characters into some semblance of a story, for the many years of Picard's life prior to TNG, which don't happen until the last three or four chapters of the book. also it was written just before Star Trek Picard came out but does not fit with that continuation at all (it's implied to be heading towards a future more like the "All Good Things" right down to Picard growing an old man beard. )
