Luke Cage: Who's Gonna Take The Weight? [1x03] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

when the kid calls Luke Ni**er. "I've had a long hard day, i'm tired.....but i'll never be so tired that i'll let anybody call me that word" love how classy he dealt with that.

Valid comparison!!

I really enjoyed Seeing Luke just go all out after those guys using a car door and a pipe just shruging off everything it was so fun, then at the end I honeslty laughed at first when I say a freaking rocket launcher I was like WTF dude really ! Remind me not to piss anyone off in that neighbor hood... sheeeeesh :P

I always took Luke's reaction to the bullets hitting him in that scene like getting a tattoo. When you first start it's all fucking OW, but after a bit, you still feel it, but you're desensitized to it enough that you aren't reacting to every little dig. (I should say how others have described their tattoo experience. Mine are all stick n pokes that I did myself, so not done with a gun...although, even that kinda went numb-ish after a little bit.)

Luke did tell guys shooting at him, in the comics, that it's not a good idea since the bullets don't pierce his skin and just piss him off 'cause they do sting.

I just remembered at the time of the series release the showrunner talking about the powerful imagery of a black man in the US, particularly, who is bulletproof.

That's a good way of putting it! I hadn't thought of it that way before

Cottonmouth has been playing too many video games going full RPG.

Carl Johnson

I feel like Mariah and Cottonmouth are the two sides of Fisk. One side the schemer and politician and the other side the brutal leader.

Carl Johnson

He does feel pain. If he didn't he would never be able to feel the touch of a woman. But like you said he does get used to it. Anyone can adjust to levels of pain. The gunshots are probably like being hit with rubber bullets. After being hit with enough a person can slowly adapt to the pain and ignore it. Also add in adrenaline in the moment. The great thing is he doesn't bruise so he probably doesn't feel the pain that much later because there is no damage that needs to heal.

Carl Johnson

Luke is a dishwasher to him. Fisk was not afraid of attacking Matt when he thought he was just a blind lawyer. Underestimating them is easy when you think everyone is beneath you.

LOL it's okay to compare the two! Cage Matches is a good name indeed.

YEAH no kidding. πŸ˜…

Cottonmouth goes to extremes real quick. Your face when you realized it was a rocket launcher 🀣. Luke was not used to the feel of many bullets directly hitting him. So his discomfort at first was more likely adjusting to the feeling. There definitely is no pain. Once he got used to the feeling it was no longer an issue. Chico's death is shocking and love the twist of scafe's character. Looking forward to next episode.

I can't help but put Fisk in that conversation at the Casket Shop. If Luke looked Fisk in the eye and said "I'm just getting started", I don't think Fisk would have laughed in his face. He would have started taking measures to figure out how to counteract Luke's advances. Cottonmouth is too arrogant. He thinks he's untouchable and isn't afraid to showboat it. I know I shouldn't compare the two. I'm trying not to lol I love the chemistry between Misty and her partner. They play off each other very well. And Luke tearing up Cottonmouth's stash house was such perfection. Oh man, Luke Cage fights should be called Cage Matches, cause no one leaves until someone stays down. As far as the expense of funerals and burials go, I finish this with a stanza from the song A Like Supreme - "Freedom is slavery, your content sold/your liquid dorsal, so profitable/pay for pastime/pay to unwind/pay to be born/pay to die"
