How to handle Patron Credits

Been thinking about this for a bit, but I wanted to gauge your opinion. So far, I do some Patron shout-outs in the beginning and end of videos now, but I realize that this tends to bloat the beginning of the video a bit, considering the intro, and sponsor on YouTube if there is one. I wonder if this may annoy audience members, especially non-Patrons?

So my question is, would you guys prefer if I stay with the current format as is, or do I do all Patron shout-outs towards the end and just make it longer?

If you want an idea on how to make it fun and interesting, Josh Strife Hayes does his in a funny way by compressing the names the more people join. You could do that if changes are still on the table!

If you ever do another indie games marathon please include pizza tower I played and beaten it yesterday and it's a pretty great game

If I can put my two cents in, my suggestion would be to just read all the names once at the beginning of the month, put them all at the end of each video, and just reuse that clip for every video you release during that month. A few of my friends do that with their Patreon shoutouts and they've said it saves time while still fulfilling the patron benefits.

ChaoticMeatball

Personally I'm not too worried about either option, I imagine some others might find the S.Os at the start of the video a bit intrusive. Pros and cons to both options really but I voted for the latter 😁

Thank you for your shout out in the last VS man, when it's spelled Fraser with an S or Z, you pronounce it 'Fray-zer' and Frasier is 'Fray-scher' just FYI ;) Also towards the end is probably best as you want as much watch time without skips as possible and generally people aren't too fussed about sitting through Patreon shoutouts aside from the Patreons themselves!

Don't usually most, if not all, people save these kinds of shout outs for the end not at the beginning? At most it's just "This video was made possible by..." and then at the end is when they rattle off the names. Think this is the first time I ever seen someone do shout outs at the beginning.

The Archest of Archers

As cool as it would be to see my name at the beginning, it'd be more fair if everyone had to wait till the end.

Lil' Drawing boi

I think it's better at the end. only thing I could see intro shout outs for is if they helped in production like giving you a wealth of info regarding the title.

EMCMend

I definitely think doing them at the end would be better.

Mevans2001

Either option works for me though I usually expect to see them at the end of the video

Actually, I would recommend a break in the middle for patreon shout outs. I've seen other YouTubers do that before, but also that's typically for longer form content. But picking between these two, I'd rather a slightly longer beginning and slightly shorter ending, lol.

Cpaz

I support a few creators via Patreon and I definitely enjoy the "after the video content is over text crawl". I'm sure some people feel differently but I don't feel like name reads are even necessary.

Mikel Boyles

For the sake of YouTube viewers, having the shoutouts at the end keeps the flow of the videos. : D

King Arthur

i dont mind either way, but massive props to you for being that considerate to the viewer.

Dialga236

I don't mind either but given the choice the end is probably better for general audience es

SomecallmeTim

Save the shoutouts for the end and take your time.

MetalGearTaurus

Having them all at the end sounds better, after all I come into each video to get into the meat and potatoes. (It's also speeg with a hard G not J πŸ₯²)

Speeginator

This could be cool. It could potentially be incorporated with the intro.

Zishan Ansari

I was lowkey thinking something like this as well. Like the first minute of a television show.

Juan Ortiz

Maybe a brief text crawl at the beginning, but full on reading names out at the end.

lurker1316

I'd say leave them until around the end of the video Just so the start of the video can be as smooth as possible

Mr_Roche

Most creators do it towards the end anyways, so I’d suggest you do it there. Sponsors usually like when you do their bits towards the beginning or blend them in the middle (not that I prefer you to do the latter, but whatever you think is best is good with me- unless you can top Caddy and Spons, that I’m 110% down to see).

Mike Weissman

For some it's just 'neat' having their name read by a creator they like.

Juan Ortiz

At the end would be best. Also i farted.

Katashi

Definitely at the end for sure, just reading more names (or having more names scroll down, it's awesome that you do but I don't think you have to absolutely read every single name haha) during the outro.

Kingdom850

I feel like the end is going to work the best, as far as making the video easier on the non-patrons. Granted, it’s going to be bloatware no matter what. If you end up making a different decision regarding the shout outs, I’d understand. Not that my feelings matter to the dozens of others who put their money into the dark roast. It’s your channel though, and I’d support almost any decision you make.

Nason Villanueva

Honestly I don't mind either way, so I'll just say do whatever you feel is right and makes it easier for you Johnny ✌️❀️

OwensShadow76

I definitely do not speak for everyone, and I have very little skin in the game, but are shoutouts really that important to everyone? Like I see why, believe me, but is there something else we can do to help meet halfway? I totally get it if people really want their shoutouts though, I just want to pose the question

MajorBlazer

I would say during the credits roll at the end of your videos leave the username of each patron. Actually typing this made me think that kind of defeats the purpose of the shoutout

Jonn Alfaro

For the sake of your watch through retention I’d say the end is smart. People who watch that far and want the shout out will do so. Maybe β€œThis video is made possible by Patreons and (Sponsor)” if you want to do that in the beginning
