8 Atheist Identities in America (Patreon-only draft)

This is a draft for patreon. The final video will likely be much shorter and will include more graphics. I hope you enjoy this somewhat wonky preview! Thanks again for the support. I’m still working to adapt to YouTube’s recent algorithm changes, and patreon is keeping me going through that. I so appreciate you all. 3/3 for November

Well well well. Now I know the term for my church upbringing is “Evangelical”. The more you know. Mind you, I was also homeschooled by my mother - a former mish kid turned new ageist - and experienced a lot of overlap in the common experiences of leaving. I had political contrarianism AND a newfound love of evolution AND I experimented with everything I was told was evil AND had to come to terms with the fact that I do not actually have super special magic healing powers, which was a bit of a bummer really

An EXCELLENT video and one that you might develop even more in various ways! I proffer the idea that a visual rendering might be particularly fertile for this topic, not only for the humor value of illustrative cartoons but also for, say, the useful clarity of devices such as the Venn diagram picturing at a glance what relationships obtain between entities, what properties shared or defined by exclusion, et cetera. You have a thesis here, not yet fully defined, about communities, histories, ideologies, and identities; to be a member of X community is means bearing a certain history, situating oneself in a specific relationship with its authority structures, social and ideological, with particular points of conversion or deconversion, joining or departing, decided by oneself or often by the others of some community (the issue of leaving versus being ejected) Since this is a FASCINATING topic for me and one I've done lots of reading in over the years I'd love to take part in trying to chase down that thesis and articulate it cogently, but I feel I have already exceeded the polite limit on comment thread monologue (mea culpa, you see why I can never exist on twitter) May I send a couple of image files if I can inspire the artist partner to sketch? and maybe a stab at a couple of Venn diagram exercises? I may be retired, but old logicians never lose the itch to syllogize :)
