On his approach to making someone a vegan, trapping them in a room might do it so long as they're trapped for long enough. A potentially more sturdy approach is to put someone on a farm where they raise the animal, then lead it to slaughter. While it was a dramatically different time, my mom as a small child had a pet rabbit, and one day the rabbit was gone and there was "chicken" on the table. She never was willing to eat rabbit again. Now, that's an anecdote, period. Plenty of kids grow up on farms and eat animals.

It also seems to be no more productive than two religionists of dramatically different beliefs arguing with one another. To his argument that "I have considered that/those things, and that didn't do it for me" the easy response is "well, you approached that consideration in bad faith, or you didn't have the skills to understand". Perhaps Alex gets pleasure out of combat.
