About the "vote now on your keypads moment" at 20:30 or so. I think that what Dave is thinking of with the "biddly-biddly" noises is the CBBC gameshow 50/50. (at least that's what immediately came to mind to me as a slightly younger Boomer). It's Definitely not what the book is referencing, as that didn't come out until the late 90s, but maybe they're both pulling from a common core of 90s British gameshow vocabulary!
