James Corden cancelled by ARMY and a rapper gets drunk and f**ks up

Comments

I think James Corden's bad joke is totally not worthy of becoming the main talk of the UN event. He (or his scriptwriter) was an idiot to come again with the teenager fandom cliché, at this poing it's triggering af.

okoscat

Wow i just heard his father resigned….. oh boy i cant wait for the next DKDKTV News and hear what you guys think!! Especially from Danny! 👌Super excited

Char

With creators making it the title of the headline it prob will unfortunately, first time patron and already kinda regretting it

Lola

BTS do a speech and perform at the UN but the title is about army’s canceling James Gordon….why pick that headline

Lola

gotta agree about James not being a hard core ARMY. I think he likes the members as people, but he's not truly into their music. the signs were there when he struggled to name a track other than Dynamite from BE...

KitKat

I am interested in the politics also since over here in America our politics are a circus anxious to hear about other countries.

Cindy Santore

Really interested to hear about politics in Korea. I person think BTS is being used by the current president to boost his popularity but wanna hear u guys and korean netizens thoughts about it.

Wunmi

The thing is... the joke could've been funny, but it wasn't and that's the problem. If you're going to make someone the butt of a joke, you had better be able to make them laugh or else risk them getting offended. it's actually really simple. I mean, Trevor Noah made a nearly identical joke but people weren't offended because BTS and Army were the subject of the joke rather than the butt of it. The other issue is that if you're going to pile on to a group that is already tired of being the butt of the joke, of being belittled and degraded, that face racist, homophobic, misogynist, and xenophobic harassment almost daily, then you absolutely risk being someones final straw. Their one thing too many. If, as a person who has made your business to attach yourself to the group and the fandom, you didn't understand that after years then... idk what to tell you. Freedom of speech isn't free from consequences. Nobody has to like what you say.

In Korea does BTS appearing with the current president make it seem like they are supporting him? I know in the US most celebrities will only do things if they like the president. How divided is Korea with their political party and would BTS sway young voters?

Tasheena Tomlinson

Oh, good lord people, it was a joke! Trevor Noah joked about not wanting to saying anything about BTS because he didn't want to be cancelled. I just want to make it very clear that I am not talking about most likely the vast majority of ARMY, but these other ARMY just come off as being bullies. I mean, people are actually afraid to give their honest opinions because they are afraid of this fandom. That seems a little cult-like to me. Again, to be clear I am not talking about ALL ARMY, just the ones like in this story.

“Crackle, that ember burns again Swallows first before it reaches the oil Without doubt, bound to be swept away Today’s player is coming in with a number of offenses When it starts to bite, boom boom boom It becomes the neighborhood drum, boom boom boom Nudge nudge, touching me for no reason If there’s no reaction just soak in it The truth may become false, the lies may become the truth In this place, everyone becomes someone with perfect ethics, and perfect judgement, that’s funny.”

“Rage, of course you need it. When it burns up there’s always a reason. Perhaps it’s our history. Sometimes it changes the world But this is not rage, it’s excretion Which one is rage, ya know? Pretending it’s rage and killing real rage Fed up the countless number of people You’re not just killing me We’re used to stepping on shit Look at those people who’ve grown numb Excretion, apathy, you guys are a team.”

“This world, it is taken over by rage. It seems that no one can live without rage. Raging, again raging, and raging Going insane like UGH! UGH! UGH! UGH! There are tens of thousands of reasons to be raging. Good will and evil will, all the same. I can rage, but if there were to be damage done to others lives, I don’t like. That’s stop! Someone gets hurt at someone actions. Someone gets gloomy at someones speech and behavior. Someone’s spur of the moment becomes someone’s moment. Someone’s rage becomes someone’s life.”

It’s so weird to me that James made this joke. He wasn’t even the one to write this but his staff did I’m sure and they would have needed approval from him to say it on tv! Just another middle age white male making an ignorant joke. Don’t generalize BTS fans! My husband and myself are 30 and we are ARMY and proud of it! Im not going to cancel him but maybe he should use his words wisely before saying something like this again! Im sure he knew the cancel train was coming!

James needs to apologize. The joke wasn’t funny and was in poor taste. I think ARMY is going after him so hard because they felt betrayed. I honestly think he likes BTS and hopefully he will make it right.

Tasheena Tomlinson

BTS are saving kittens, pulling people out of burning buildings, saving the planet right now. How did “BTS Army cancelling Cordon” make the lead headline? Edit: this is an honest question. Y’all have always been able to give a logical answer to how y’all picked the news.

Also if you can discuss a little, are korean people familiar with AA meeting or rehab? Is it something court push if the person do crime was intoxicated? Thanksss

Putri SN

Honestly i can't watch any late night show interview anymore, everything seems so superficial. And most of the hosts did not even do quick research about their guests. Btw what do you expect the verdict for Noel? And how big chance his father to become a president candidate?

Putri SN

The situation with the rapper is crazy. He seems long overdue for his dad to use that belt on him. I am really curious if he will truly be held accountable or if his dad and his dad’s connections will let him escape accountability once again. If his dad is smart he’ll tell authorities to treat his son like any other Korean citizen and hold him accountable. Had I been his dad, I would have stopped suckling him a long time ago. 😂 Holding him accountable is likely what is needed to stop his downward spiral. I think the statements Corden made were in poor taste, but I also think he genuinely likes BTS. I chalk it up to not thinking before speaking. Something we have all done at some point in life, including BTS. Everyone has had to apologize or reflect on something they have said at some point. It doesn’t negate their sincerity or who they are as a person if the mistake was inconsistent with their normal nature. Plus people need to realize business is business and friendship is friendship. Rarely do the two mix. Sure it’s great if they do, but that isn’t the norm. Corden uses BTS for ratings and views on his show. BTS uses Corden for exposure to potential new fans in US and world markets. This fantasy of them being best buddies needs to stop. BTS isn’t best buddies with the people they work or collaborate with. Those are working relationships. Ideally you hope for mutual respect and admiration not friendship because it’s business. If lucky, you might end up with a genuine friendship from one or two working relationships.

chillaxinchica

I think it’s just a dumb lazy stereotypical joke. It reminds me of when BTS was performing at the same radio concert as Katy Perry and she joked that wasn’t it already past the ARMY’s bedtime? I didn’t know this before, but apparently James Corden has a very bad reputation. His Reddit AMA is full of negative comments and experiences that people have had with him. So even if ARMY “cancel” him, they’re joining a long line of other people as well.

Emika

He has been disrespectful to teenage girls in general... that's in my case what fed me up more, cancelling... maybe too much? make him and his team, and other hosts know that this is not the way? maybe it is time already. BTW one of the SDG highly discussed in the UN was gender inequality and girl access to education, James Corden was just too inadecuate .

Ghettoblaster

I hope the cancelling doesn’t take attention away from their UN speech (which I thought was really good!) and their whole reason for being there…

Jeika

yea, issues that BTS themselves talked about at UN and issues that BTS fandom get involved in regularly. James was disrespectful towards the group and the fandom that has been involved and supported his charities before. There's a reason why he deleted the video right away, he knew that he messed up

Mihaela Afemei

BTS fandom literally wants to cancel anyone who is says something they don’t agree with. It really isn’t that serious , like there are bigger issues in the world than someone making a joke about a boy group.

Cordens Teenage Girl Joke is just old and not funny anymore. If you're a women with interest in any fandom you here that bullshit all the time. For me it's on the same level as "You should smile more" comments from men. I never thought James is a REAL Army, I know the show is just his business. But I thought he and his team were at least respectful towards BTS & Army and would KNOW that such a cheap joke is not funny for Army. Also: People complaining about "cancel culture" So what?! It's not like he will lose his job/show because of Army. Can't you even critice anyone anymore?!

Daniela Dittrich

As a 32 year old woman who sees interests of teenagers and especially teenage girls mocked and invalidated daily in a high school. This army is right. James Corden might not have been mean spirited but his joke suggests misogyny and ageism. Let the teenagers breathe.

Eri

I saw an army on Twitter say, “as a teenage girl myself I just want to say, leave us alone. I’m not brainless for liking a boy band, and neither does me liking a boy band invalidate their achievements. Stop using my gender and age as a way of mocking g others and invalidating what they do.”

Eri

It is just sad that even James Corden who is an Army and values boy bands work etc still perpetuates the fangirling depreciation (teenage fangirls aren't there because of quality just because of artist's looks, and are all crazy/irrational) when it has been long talked about how male chauvinistic that way of thinking is and well... it has been proved wrong so many times. It is just the easy joke and it is not funny anymore

Ghettoblaster

Some are going too far with James. He really likes BTS you can tell. The teenage girl jokes needs to go though. I´m 28 and I don´t feel included. Plus, how is it "unusual" that they are at the UN? They have been there before. Like Suga said; they were there to promote the cause and were successful.

thde16mw

He looks like JYP

thde16mw

I personally didn't find it anywhere near as offensive as some did, but then again I'm a LOT older than the majority of the fans and I'm used to Australian/British humour - we are very very sarcastic and poke fun at everything, especially if it is popular. I think the humour was very badly phrased, but I did take his point - BTS is a very unusual guest at a gathering like the UN and musical performances there are very rare indeed. I think he was TRYING (and failing) to poke fun at the "screaming, teenager girl fan" image. But cancelling was going a bit far. I personally think it should of just been ignored and given no traction - it creates a better impression of our displeasure than screaming about it, & watching it to scream about it some more - that just gives them the incentive to do more stupid stuff to get views etc which is what they NEED.

Cintamani Crawford

Agreed. I wish the joke was at least funny tho lmao

zbyndagram

It's funny, Lisa was on Jimmy Fallon, NCT was on Corden (they performed 'Sticker'), but BTS gets on both shows AND BBC One. What was Corden thinking? He just had TXT on his show not a month earlier - why crap on your KPOP connections when BTS were in the middle of a historic event for them, their country and their fans. Even his audience couldn't laugh outright (did you watch the broadcast? It was a mild reaction, even from his own audience!) A serious case of foot-in-mouth.

kolea626

Some people really need to have a life and do some job instead of just scrolling down the twitter. The saddest part is these minority of people are the loudest on these platforms which give a bad name to the whole fandom. I understand why some armys are oversensitive because BTS gets so much shit without any reason but here is a thing there is a fine line between being disrespectful and just joking around and these kids need to understand that. Corden was definitely being the later one. Also people need to do their own research instead of just reading screenshots on twitter from fan pages.🙄🙄🙄😑😑😑

priyanka chakraborty

Nah, ARMY as a whole is actually pretty tolerant - unless, of course, you wanna be ageist, racist, sexist or homophobic. If so, maybe think twice before posting or take it on the chin. For the minority of trigger happy ARMYs .... well, some people be idiots on the internet. We didn't invent that, no matter what some people would like you to believe.

P3nth3sil3a

I'm army and I dont agree with this cancel culture. The joke got misunderstood and nitpicked. Saying that BTS is unusual guest because most guests are politicians/world leaders. And no choice to take BTS seriously meant that those in denial of BTS' influence will have to accept their impact now and take them seriously for their speech and not just the misconception of "just a boy band". For the 15 yr old girls, it didnt mean that armys are immature/teenagers. But the joke was that some teenagers wanted to be an older person (un general secretary) just to see bts in person, which is not a usual dream for teenagers. Unfortunately this went viral and fan pages posted it with hate captions and those who watched are already in conclusion that it was disrespecting BTS. I always watch the late late show and their monolugue is the most fun part because how they diss current events and the crew's banter, now army gave hurtful comments towards corden that were low blows too. Now armys being tagged as toxic fans, but not all of us are like that, we just cant help if there are fans who think this way and reacted in defense of a possible disrespect BTS. The amount of clout and hate that BTS gets make army too defensive. I understand why they are like this, but it is not right. All we can do is just explain or give our opinion but we can't change everyone's opinion. Sorry i'm ranting. Please don't hate BTs or all army for the actions of some. Lol.

jayzah one

Army always has to cancel everyone 🙄
