Earth at 0.6 eccentricity

Starting to get a bit crashy so we'll see how far I can push it

Earth at 0.6 eccentricity

Comments

My guess is that crashes in cases like this are where it’s kicking over into moist greenhouse territory because the oceans are getting close to boiling.

I recently did an ExoPlaSim run at e=0.6 for a fairly earthlike planet (though thicker atmosphere at 1.8 atm and only 94% earth insolation, and near-zero obliquity). It consistently crashes, but the last output before the crash is *really* inhospitable—like temperatures on all the large land areas of over 150°C around perihelion. Even if we managed to get life in the oceans, it seems like land areas will be pretty comprehensively sterilized!
