Dire, Dire Docks (Super Mario 64) Jazz Arrangement

This is my third time arranging Dire, Dire Docks for the channel, but I'm not complaining! This is one of my favorite video game melodies of all time, and it was so fun to get to stretch out my arranging chops a bit on a simple tune like this. Plus, this is my debut of soprano saxophone on the channel (well, debut if you don't count the couple of videos I played it in many years ago), since I own one now! I'm very excited to use it in future videos :)

As a reminder, I'm uploading videos every other week from now on. I'm really loving this change, personally, since I've been able to make more time for things like recording gigs, and even some game composition work! I have some cool things I'm looking forward to sharing with you all when I can, and I'm able to do them because of this time I've freed up! Thank you, Patrons, for enabling me to do this - without Patreon support, it'd be more difficult for me to justify uploading less times a month in favor of other work that is less short-term profitable.

The next video is going to be super cool, and is featuring a very very special collaborator who has never appeared on the channel before!

Great questions! I'll address these in my next Patreon monthly vlog - should be filming it tonight!

Hey, Carlos, I thought of a couple (actually serious) follow-up questions. Maybe this would be something to cover in a monthly Patreon update, I dunno. How do you decide which instruments you should get? Is your strategy to start with the common and expand gradually into the more obscure, or is it more like "I want to arrange [Kass's Theme] next and I think it needs [an accordion]?" When you feel an arrangement needs an instrument you don't have and aren't going to buy yet (and aren't able to line up a guest to play), is there some way for you to get your hands on one? I figure that was probably easier when you were at Berklee, but what do you do in that situation now?

Thank you! I really like re-doing old covers for that purpose as well :)

LOL, I'd have to do the research on that one... my next saxophone target is a bass sax, but that is definitely not high up on the list of instruments I really should acquire (but dear god, do I want one)

"I decided to complete my saxophone family (the 4 most common ones, at least)" Message received. How much more do we need to contribute to get you a tubax? This is an especially lovely arrangement, really enjoyed this one!

One thing I really like about you covering Dire, Dire Docks again is that it's such an amazing showcase of how far you've come since you first started doing this--it's seriously unreal to think that the Year 1 version and this one were made by the same person (well, maybe more than one person if your mixer and editor were involved, haha). This cover is absolutely excellent!
