End of Year Update

Well that year happened.

After finally finishing the ARPG series I think that 2021 saw some of my best pieces of content to date. Here are some of my personal highlights:

• State machines! Revisted, polished and boiled down to a 4 minute guide
• A highly-generic and adaptable Inventory tutorial with follow-ups
• A turbo-charged guide to making your first game

I've been refining my process for videos which a lot of people seem to have noticed. Rather than record step-by-step follow-along videos I've been scripting videos out and creating footage to match the voiceover. This has numerous advantages and generally leads to higher quality videos that are shorter and easier to digest (although ironically take longer to make!). I still think there's a place for my old style which I have to remember, is what attracted many people to my channel in the first place. But this opens up the possibility to explore slightly more advanced topics without making videos over an hour long.

This year I'm going to be continuing to focus largely on revisiting content that is getting outdated and perhaps preparing a new *short* beginner series. When I look back at old content there's many things I could do better and funnily enough, new things I could teach in the scope of that old content based on things I've learned myself over time. I also want to continue doing plenty of Patron selected videos and I'm reintroducing the topic suggestion form to try and make sure I'm also still delivering on sought out topics that haven't been covered before elsewhere.

I suppose it's worth mentioning and sorry if this seems abnormally low-key. But I'm non-binary now. I've avoided talking much about it because really I don't want to make a huge deal out of it. It's a very personal thing that doesn't really affect my work, and is something that's really only relevant in the context of me dressing/looking differently on live streams (if you even watch those!). If for some reason you're just a big fan of my voice it's not going to change so don't worry.
