Hah, there were a couple phallic or sex jokes you might have missed (or maybe you just didn't react to.) When the torpedo hit near the underside where the kids had to escape from, all the crew members grabbed their groins which reinforces the phallic nature you point out of Dai Gurren. And when Simon flies up and spears Dai Gurren from the underside to push it up to the surface, the mechanic guy (I'm terrible with names) goes "oh?" And pops up into the air like Dai Gurren got uh... penetrated.
