But back then, and for awhile, in the forums and among the fans the glyphs translated to "Underworld." Another translation was "die," based on a blog involved in an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) called The Lost Experience, which was a fun viral marketing game going on during the second and third seasons of Lost.
