Few days late, but to explain the grades, those were pretty solid. The way GCSE's are graded, the average in the UK is like a C+/B-. with C being a passing grade. So an A, four B's, three C's and a D comes out as above average overall.

I believe that your GSCEs don't matter as much as your A-level grades. I'm not British but I looked into studying in the UK, and I think the average grade requirement was fairly low, while you had to have top marks in your chosen A-levels. But if your GSCEs are too low the school won't let you sit for an exam but boots you out midterm.
