Let Justice Be Done Ch. 58
Added 2021-10-07 17:30:02 +0000 UTCHe was walking on a bridge at night.
Day was coming.
He saw Raguel/Himself looking toward him with kindness and concern.
Raguel woke from the fear.
===x===
It had been a week since Raguel and Viviane had arrived in the Snow World. They spend all that time in the Ice Crystal Palace as they couldn't go anywhere else, but they were pretty content with that.
Viviane had her fiction and non-fiction books with her, which she shared with Raguel. Thus they always had something to talk about. Even though they were only in a wing of the palace it was still a huge place, and they were given the freedom to explore it as they wished.
Thus they never have to worry about being stimulated. However...
"Honey," Raguel said, looking out of the window in their room, overlooking the gardens, from behind the light curtain. "She's back again."
Down in the Lady Eleen was trying to sneak around, using glamour of course, to make herself invisible and likely wanting to "bump" into Raguel and Viviane casually to try and get them to work with her again.
Of course, it seems like Lady Eleen had forgotten that due to passing by the ice spirits that act as servants and guards of the palace, Raguel and Viviane are always notified whenever she arrives, thus the chance of "bumping" into them was basically none.
Raguel understood from Viviane, that this task of being their guide was just as important for Lady Eleen as it was for them. It's just that in most cases the pressure was on the supervisee, not the supervisor.
It turns out given Lady Eleen's...precarious position, it's likely her to be punished if anyone complained about them not going around the Snow World meeting some important and, or, stuck up person.
As Viviane explained to Raguel, there are Six Ladies of the Lake spots. Five were filled, and the sixth and last spot was usually almost always empty.
Usually a new Lady of the Lake is appointed when one of the five steps down, or is "retired".
So, Viviane didn't think Lady Eleen would actually be given the position, but is being lead around by a carrot on a string.
Long ago the Winter Queen lost a bet to the Summer Queen and now has to have three of her Lake Ladies serve the Summer Queen.
Who the three Lake Ladies chosen would be, was up to the Winter Queen, but there must be at least one Lady of the Lake within the Summer Court.
Currently, the Winter Court holds: Viviane, Lady of the Gleaming Lake. Phaedria, Lady of the Divining Lake. And finally Maeve, Lady of the Empty Lake.
The Summer Court holds two Ladies of the Lake, with the last spot left vacant.
"Oh my, she certainly is persistent." Viviane said nonchalantly, not looking up from her book.
Raguel went and sat by her side.
"I know Lady Eleen didn't really leave the best first impression, but honestly after actually looking at her soul? She's kinda harmless and just wants a friend. Also she seems to be searching for something. I get that fae are all about taking advantage of each other, but I don't think she's actually malicious." Raguel said.
"The moment she was appointed with a position relatively over me, she tried to take advantage of it, and even thought about seducing you." Viviane said in a bitter voice, but she was more annoyed than actually offended.
"Call it a hunch but, it kinda seems to me like she was given bad advice on how to interact with people. She was acting kinda like how one expect a fae to act, rather than actually how she would normally act. It's why she cried and ran away, when it didn't work out as expected." He clarified.
Viviane sighed, marked which page she was on her book before closing it, and focusing on her husband.
"You're not gonna let this go, are you? You really want to 'help' her too."
"Why...do you make it sound like when I try to help people I have some ulterior motive?" Raguel asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Nothing," Viviane smiled and huffed. "Just know that, while I might consider two more wives and ten mistresses as acceptable, I don't find Lady Eleen acceptable in any of those roles in the least. So don't even think about trying to romance her." She looked toward Raguel expecting him to either grumble or be glad for her generosity, only to see him with his jaw dropped.
"What?" Raguel blinked in confusion.
"As the first wife I get to choose if there would be a harem and how big it could be, and I'm not changing my mind. Two and ten, that's the limit. I believe that is more than fair." Viviane crossed her arms, and nodded firmly, sure of her judgement.
"No, no, that's not what my objection." Raguel's brain was struggling to compute for a few moment. "How is this even a thing? I don't, I don't want a harem. I planned on only be committed to you, where is this coming from?" Raguel said his words going faster, along with his internal panic.
Viviane looked confused for a moment--yet a happy blush on her face--before her eye lit up in understanding.
"Ah, I see, right. Human past life. I suppose this isn't something you would culturally know." She nodded to herself. "Simply put, it's normal for powerful people to have a harem. Kings, emperors, conquerors and the like. You are powerful, Raguel, and I feel you are likely to grow even more in the future. You already have a heavy destiny and presence in the world, thus likely to attract lovers to you in the future. So I'm acting to set boundaries on that early, rather than not prepare at all for when it happens."
"That is never going to happen."

AN: Short chapter I know, but it's the weekends, and I wanna get into the groove of "no pressure chapters" again to stay consistent. I hope to post again tomorrow and the day after, to build up a backlog. Later.
