July Dormitory Diary Entry - Kimura

Hello and thank you for your support. Kimura here. This is my dormitory diary entry for July.

The season of sunflowers has arrived; Summer is now in full-swing. The other day, I went to Tama Zoological Park to do some sketching. The heat and many hills completely sapped me of energy so I was only able to see about a third of the animals, but the sketches themselves went well. I’m very satisfied with how they turned out. I wanna draw the giraffes next time I go.

Also, I’ve been super into morning workouts on the pull-up bars at my local park. Parks in Tokyo are packed in the morning with people walking their dogs, stretching, etc. Tons of people come over and say hi to me, and I’ve even made friends with a middle-aged gentlemen through the pull-up bars. I’ve never had any friends who’d go with me to the bars before, so that me really happy. I actually look forward to my workouts now.

Now, about work, production on a show we’ve been working on at the studio for a very long time has finally calmed down, so I’ve been helping another studio with their work. There’s not much movement on this new project, but each frame is made up of SO many lines. So much so that I still can’t really pump out that many frames at a time. I’m doing my best though because, I feel that, by overcoming this project, I’ll become a much better animator.

One thing I’ve noticed is that I seem to be more geared towards batch-style workflows than getting things done in order one-by-one. When I do one task at a time, I get down on myself because I feel like I don’t accomplish that much, but if I split a bigger project up into little pieces and complete the same amount of work, I feel much better. It’s gotta be something about the catharsis of frequently flipping through a stack of paper and inspecting all the frames one-by-one.

The heat is gonna be around for a while longer. Please make sure you’re taking care of yourself everyone.

こんにちは。お世話になっております。木村です。7月の寮生日記を投稿致します。

ひまわりの咲く季節になってきました。本格的に夏が始まった感じがします。先日、多摩動物公園にクロッキーに行ってきました。暑さと坂の多さで体力を削られ、3分の1くらいの動物しか見るとこができませんでしたが、クロッキー自体はとても調子が良く、満足しております。今度はキリンを描きに行きたいです。

また、朝の時間に公園で鉄棒をすることにハマっています。東京の朝の公園は犬の散歩に来ている人がいたり、ストレッチしにきている方がいたりと賑やかです。挨拶してくれる方も多く、鉄棒を通じておじさんと仲良くなれました。一緒に鉄棒できる友達が1人もいなかったのでとても嬉しいです。運動しに行く楽しみが出来ました。

さて、お仕事についてです。長く関わってきた自社作品が一段落ついたため、他社の作品を手伝っております。動きは少ないのですが、線がとても多い作品で動画枚数がなかなか伸びません。この作品を乗り越えれば動画マンとしてレベルアップ出来ると思って頑張っています。

1つ気づいた点ですが、1枚づつ仕上げていく方法だと、「まだこれだけしか進んでない」と落ち込んでしまうので、パーツごとに分けて全部を少しずつ仕上げていく方法が自分にあっていると感じました。常に前後の紙をパラパラしているのでコマ送りの感覚もつかめるような気がします。
