Hello. My name is Toshiki Kimura.

This is my dormitory diary entry for March.

I will be in your care for another year. I would like to extend another big thank you for being here.

This month, we’ve welcomed many new residents to the dormitory. There’s a lot more residents now compared to last year, so I think it’ll be very lively.

I haven’t met any of the new boarders yet, so I am both excited and nervous. Everyone is so good at drawing that I’ll need to up my game to not get left behind.

Moving on to work, I got to do my first anime opening. I learned a lot as it gave me the chance to examine illustrations from key animators who apparently had experience directing. I could feel their experience through the texture of their lines and the contrast between the way they drew clothes, skin, hair, etc. It really left an impression on me.

Digitalization has made work more efficient, but I feel that many things are being left behind, like the differences in each person’s lines and how we interpret the nuances of keyframes. I’d like to become an animator who can bring out those unique characteristics.

Anyway, here’s to another great year.

３月の寮生日記を投稿いたします。

昨年度に引き続き、ここでお世話になります。改めてですが、よろしくお願い致します。

今月から寮に新しい仲間が増えました。昨年に比べ人数が多く、賑やかになりそうです。まだ、会ったことがないため、楽しみと不安が混在しています。画力のある方ばかりなので負けないように頑張っていきたいと思います。

さて、仕事についてですが、はじめてOPの動画を担当しました。作画監督の経験があるような原画マンさんたちの絵を拾えるのでとても勉強になります。動画をしっかりと積んできた方の絵は、線一本一本に質感が感じられ、布、肌、髪などの線の書き分けが見えるので感動しています。デジタル化で作業の効率化は進んでいますが、線の違い、原画のニュアンスのつかみ方など、おざなりになっているものも多くなっているように感じます。ここの違いが出せるアニメーターになりたいです。
