The secret crawl space was probably nothing more than access to utilities and insulation. they are very common and common to be covered by something. Some jurisdictions require access by law. But, it's more fun to think it was for hiding something. Until the next attic reveal, <3

I honestly would say to get rid of that because that looked like the bags my cousin uses to remove asbestos. Thiiick heavy duty bags?
